Stam DK - what should I do?

eriklindham
I'm currently around 230 cp with my stam DK, just golded out 5 Hundings and 2 nmg daggers. I must say I really enjoy playing the class. Lots of fun in group dungeons with steel tornado, solo pve is a face roll as with any other class and I think he can pull his weight in PvP once I start focusing on Cyrodiil.

But I must say I'm getting a bit worried after reading the countless of threads saying that stam classes (nb/dk in particular) will have a hard time post Morrowind.

My goal is to be able to run vet trials and vMA. But should I just reroll to Sorc? Or should we expect Zos to buff the general stam classes in the near future?

I really want to continue having fun but I'm also a very group oriented player. I don't want to end up getting kicked from dungeon groups only because I'm not a dps sorc

I have a character in the same boat . Just have to wait and test these cost reductions tomorrow's patch on TC . Did they list the DK abilities getting cost reductions ?

You will be kicked from groups for various reasons.
    • Wrong race
    • Wrong alliance
    • Wrong class
    • Wrong weapons used
    • Not enough CP
    • Not enough DPS
    • Being "try hard"
    • Being "entitled elitist prick"
Just some of reasons I was kicked from groups in the past years.

NMG is really more of a pve set, hundings could be a decent set for both pvp and pve. Good thing for you is you can reroll a stam sorc and use that same gear. Now as far as vet trials go you'll likely need some friends that will take you through a successful clear cause more and more groups are filling up all dps spots with sorcs, mag sorc more specifically. If your a stam dk and not a tank good luck.
New patch notes come out tomorrow, let's hope dk gets some love :)

No these are mag DK abilities. As a stam DK you shouldn't have enough mag to keep these up. Also stam DKs (if you're not just out to tank) will use mostly 2H abilities along with vigor, shuffle. Your mag skills will be reserved for dragon fire scales and igneous shields

For PvE don't worry to much, because of molten armaments and the upcoming use of heavy attacks for resource returns, Stam DKs are in a good place for high single target dps again. Stam sorcs will be in a good spot. Wait until after the patch to re-roll maybe? If you're really going after pvp then maybe you'll want to have a stam sorc leveled, I've been working on mine for a while in anticipation. Way more fun to play than a stam DK. You can still be tanky and you have the mobility and access to great defensive ultis. Good solo class.

Shuffle has been nerfed, from 20% to 15%. Also, if you have any friendly warden around, he will provide the same buffs spiked armor gives to you. But your question should be, among all these severe cost reduction nerfs, do you need another skill that devours stamina, and shuffle is that. With changes to roll dodge, I think shuffle is not any good anymore.

Well Stam dk will be good in Pve. Everyone has to heavy attack somewhat next patch due to resource management issue. Guess what - you can buff you heavy attack damage by 40%. So as far as Stam DPS go, it'll be fine. VMA may be a different story.

PvP is mostly where they'll suffer. A lot less sustain and potentially complete loss on major mending.

Dude, despite so many that are hating on 2H StamDK (after a year of playing it, I don't care on whatever hating or bashing are still being thrown on StamDK), this is my foundation. I've played with my first toon, the 2H StamDK, for about a year on PvE before venturing into creating other toons of the other classes. I ran plenty of dungeons/pledges (soloed many), vet dungeons, trials and even some vet trials (although, lots of pushback and even being kicked in occasions, but I didn't care. I have completed with groups more accepting.. and no, there is no dang carry crap.) I've since created a toon in all classes and race (minus the lizard and kitty people. ha ha), and pretty much all are maxed CP. Each class toon has its own unique skills and abilities; however my fav is still a 2H/bow StamDK. I have created a second StamDK to roll around with, since I only, basically, use my first StamDK as the go-to master crafter.

I'm not saying StamDK is better than any other class, but I still solo dungeons, bosses and whatever that is soloable in PvE better with my 2H/bow StamDK than the other class toon.. yes, even the glorified MagSorc, which I also have and also like, but too damn squishy and still dieable in soloing. I'll tell you.. for me, nothing clears/melts any mob faster than Arrow Barrage, Choking Talons, Noxious Breath, and AC heavy attack/Wrecking Blow. Yes, as good or even better than the DW's Steel tornadoes or the StamPlar's Biting Jabs. Heck, certain mobs, like those at the beginning at a dolmen, are gone before I can even AC the heavy attack and Wrecking Blow. Also, for a quick demise of a boss, just throw in the Poison Injection, Beast trap and Venomous Claw. I actually rarely have to use my ultimate, but I do on higher end hp bosses.

My main build for my StamDK are all HA-based. I find the best ratio of overall weapon damage, health and stamina are better with the Nord DK with HA passives; yes, even better than the medium armor passives. Can't go wrong with close to 4K weapon damage (no buff) and mid-30s stamina, "at all times." Plus, I have more survivability in soloing with my HA-based StamDK than the squishy, but devastating MagSorc or any other MA-based toon, such as the StamPlar or StamBlade. Also, this when I give credit for PvP for the Ravaging Set. When the perk hit and the weapon damage goes up another 600 or so, targets go down faster. StamDK with Ravaging and/or DKS = winning combo! Plenty of times, other toons are dying around me in group fights, (delves, dungeons, whatnot) but I rarely die with my 2H StamDK, even soloing those DLC's world bosses.

Lastly.. no more freaking *beep* *beep* nerfing of any class/ability.. dammit!!

The over reaction by the community in regards to stam DKs are due to the following:

    1. 5% stam universal increase ......(minor) all stam
    2. champ point change no reduction in stam cost. (Major)
    3. Heavy Armor resource return -42% (Major)
    4. Medium Armor cost reduction passive nerf (Moderate)
    5. Increase in the cost of VIGOR by 30% ( Major)
    6. Block cost increased form .5 to .25 (Major)
    7. DK Battle Roar (Moderate) nerf
    8. DK helping hands passive nerf (Major)
    9. DK ingenious shields major mending nerf (Major)
    10. Rearguard race nerf (Moderate) there are a ton of redguard DKs

You really have to look at this list and how it pertains to your playstyle to determine whether it truly is a "nerf" to you or not.

I can say for myself, looking at this list, only about 3 points really affect me that will require some significant adjusting on my part.
