I think people with pre-orders got the first part of invites and the rest part is just random. Not sure if it's binded to your playing activity.

It is all random. Apparently they even included console players when sending out invites.

Or, maybe there was another criteria that you friend met but you didn't.

like participating in previous PTS, having ESO plus, forum contribution, length of time since account creation.

Who knows what their criteria is.

Doesn't that mean your friend broke the NDA.

    This.

I know a guy who has an account he created a year or so ago. Never participated in PTS, has only one character at level 10. Never posted on forums, never had ESO+.

    He got a Beta invite.

My "friend" logged into pts for like 10 minutes during the one when dueling came out and never since or before, didn't pre order or even plays more then a few hours a week and he got a inv.

Yeah, the email says something about "we've applied the code to your account!", so it doesn't seem transferable.

(probably to keep people from trying to sell them on ebay, among other reasons)

I got one last week. I updated pts, logged in, pc critically crashed, brown screen, couldn't do anything except restart. Restarting put my pc in a loop and now I can't use it. I think it's just a corrupted windows install but it's still really annoying. Can't even bug report it lol. Anyway today I got another beta invite, so now I have 2. Silver lining and all that

I figured it was based on past participation in beta trials as well as their actual -participation- in said trials. Or at least I like to think of it that way. Honestly it's probably a random raffle.

I got the Morrowind pre order with all the fixin's on the first day they offered it, and I didn't get a beta invite - so no I don't think that's true.

Receiving and reading an email isn't accepting an NDA. And if the NDA isn't accepted (which in this case apparently requires logging into the PTS), it certainly can't be broken. Unless it specifically states so, NDA's also aren't retroactive - in that if the person reported getting an invite prior to accepting the NDA, even upon accepting the NDA, it hasn't been broken. But IANAL, and this isn't legal advise.

He was never in any other PTS at all, and I was in the actual games closed beta invite for the monkey

It's random. I've never been on PTS, and only just got ESO+ these last two months (after returning post-9+ month hiatus.)

I am pretty sure they used the same RNG as they do in the game.

I got one, but I have always been really active on the pts before every major update, and all of the other people I know who got one have also been very active on the pts but those I know who have never been on pts didn't get one. I thought this was the only criteria, clearly I was wrong :grimace:

I can't even talk about the pts in the special forum area for it either, because I am stupid and accidentally messed up the forum invite and every time I contact support about it they send me a generic email about how, from my email address, they see that I already have a forum account and instructions on how to recover my password

I'd imagine they would make a list of categories from statistical data they (possibly) have and pick a quantity from each one.

ESO tries to appeal to wide range of players so even a random pick from the whole playerbase with a few select priority players is possible.
