Why ESO discourages me to player more than 1 character

In general, I like keeping them separate. It is a roleplaying game after all. A few things, though, I wish were shared:

    - gathering/refining achievements (10,000??? Seriously???)
    - motifs (I see zero argument for making alts learn motifs that cost 100k each)
    - furniture purchase eligibility (just so that I don't have to swap to the right character to buy something)

Master writs might deserve a place on your list.

Motifs are especially painful since using them means you are stuck with that character forever. But why would you have alts learn expensive motifs? Everyone should just have a single character do 3 gear crafts.

I don't think the gathering/refining is a problem. I only refine on characters that have points to get better stuff out of it anyway. Gathering is a bit annoying, but achievements are often annoying and require a grind.

I actually don't think 10k is that high for refining consider how many raw mats I got just from the anniversary weeks. Helps to have addon that bulk refines.

What discourages me from doing so is the achievement score.

Agreed. Achievements should be account wide aside from the obvious ones like Skyshard hunting, etc. Unless you made Skyshards account wide as well, which I wouldn't necessarily be opposed to. I mean, Champion Points are account wide, so why not?

So through endless twilights I dreamed and waited, though I knew not what I waited for.

I am in the same boat OP and the solution is painfully obvious. Keep the individual achievement tabs for each character so the RP fanboys dont lose their damn minds, then have a distinct and separate account wide achievement tab that shows total progress on an account.

    Boom, everyone is happy.

Just for fun, I refuse to do Dark Brotherhood or Thieves guild on my main for ethical reasons. I also have a separate crafter that knows all the motifs (save a few of the SOTH ones). That is both an RP reason and a very practical reason to have an account wide achievement section. Should I relearn every motif on my main or force him to go against his ethical code for achiement points? Haha
