[Suggestion] Making items look like they were crafted with lower level materials

Every mage character I've ever made has had the coolest looking staves at level 20, because oak just looks so good in a staff. I think Xivkyn oak staves are the coolest looking weapons in the game. Ruby ash, on the other hand, looks ugly as hell.

I don't have an opinion on a general transmog system (I can see reasons to be against completely changing the style of an item), and I'm probably not for a weapon dyeing system. But I really think there should be an option to re-forge items to look like they were made in the same style with lower level mats. Definitely requiring knowledge of the relevant motif (I'd even say the entire chapter), lots of style materials, and binding the item to your account.

I love the lower level barbaric shields, as well as most of the low level staves.

And a lot of the lower level helmets are cool, too.

Sometimes we just like something practical, but not too fancy.

    Totally agree with you OP!
Just love the look of some low lvl items. But it could be quite hard from technical side.

Honestly, I'd skip this step and go straight to saying we should be able to customize a character's visuals sort of like how DCUO works. Each item has its own cosmetic design, but once you've equipped it, it's permanently unlocked on that character, and you can configure them however you'd like, whenever you want.

No. This would render a large part of the game's crafting system nearly entirely useless.

I'm still ambivalent on whether or not people should be allowed to reforge an item in a different style, but I'm 100% against implementing it in the way you suggested.

I would like to see this as a feature too.

I think a lot of high-tier weapons look too comically oversized and over-detailed, and armors simply look over-detailed.

There is often beauty in simplicity. There is such a thing as too much detail.

I suggested the gear level up system before (basically make 1/many new items that can upgrade the low level gear to the higher level and keeps the original look.

This would solve both 1.Less outrage when ZOS try to raise gear cap in the future
2.We don't have to look at the red weapons

    ignored by ZOS tho

Everyone talking about the armour or shields ( that can be changed ) the weapons cannot so OP has a point, but only for weapons.

The other things can be dyed to look similar.

Why do you all talking about the color? The shape matters!
I really really really like 1st tier khajiit robes, and I really really really hate top tier of them.

Wow. It's been a while since I've seen this suggestion pop up. Some of the lower level items look better than their higher level versions so I would be fine with this. I guess that's why most of the rarer styles only have one look to them

Low level Khajiit robes lack the floating hip panels, low level bosmer ones are shorter.
Transmorg would probably be the best option here, far more flexible and probably around the same work to implement.

Here is a simple suggestion. Keep everything how it is now. While crafting your gear, simply add another option to mold the gear in another appearance. But you will need the mats, wood, cloth etc to do this. This will add value to lower lvl mats.

TESO needs a wardrobe system badly. Something similar to WoW's tmog system would make this game one of the best mmorpg out there!

i agree 100%, its such a shame that we have so many cool looking low level styles that will never see the light of day because gearing up is not worth it until you are cp160.

i also hate the eye cancer that is cp160 gear.

If they could implement something like the SWTOR "outfit" system, IE put gear into a separate slot for the look, while getting none of the stat benefits etc., then that would be awesome.

To be fair, as it stands right now, the crafting system is, "nearly entirely worthless." If you at least unlocked the ability to wear a motif piece when you learned it, that would be one solid reason for hunting down books.

Yes, it would be great when crafting your racial gear if you could choose which tier you wanted.
