Why is Vma so addicting?

So I decided to give Vma a go last friday and finished sunday. It was frustrating as I kept on dying and I wasted so much gold on mats for pots and food. I received a sharpened frost staff.
I decided to give it another try to see if I can get a resto staff and instead I got some dagger and axe that I will never use. I hate doing it because I know I'll probably waste all my gold on it, but I just want to keep on doing it.
I'm probably going to give it another go today. I need help.

Edit: I do find Vma fun and I was probably half asleep because it does frustrating. I will probably continue to do it from time to time. I just don't feel like grinding costantly. I still want a resto staff though ☺

The content itself is actually nice, I don't run it all the time but it doesn't aggravate me or anything. Kinda meh just like running any other dungeon.

The loot can be frustrating if you are only there for the loot.

Well hopefully it wears off soon because if it continues I might end up hating this game so much.

Sort of both. When I first ran it I got so mad at the game that I wanted to throw my elite controller at the wall. I guess I confused it a bit with feeling obliged to do it so I can do well in PvE content. In all honesty though I do find it a bit fun just very frustrating at times.

I really don't mind the difficulty, I just don't like the time it takes to finish one run. I've got limited time so taking an hr of my 2-3 hr play time a day is not feasible...

Plus the rng can either be very forgiving and go smoothly, or be an absolute nightmare all bc rngesus says so.

It's addictive the first couple of runs because it's a challenge. You have to learn and adapt to each stage. Mostly the completion is reward enough itself.

Once you get it down to a rhythm, such that completing it is monotonous, and it no longer provides much, if any, of a challenge, you'll start wondering why even do it. It has a reward, but it's so rare you'll end up wasting so much time on it that it feels like too much arduous work to achieve the end goal (acquiring your weapon).

It's the Inverse drug. the few people who enjoy a challenge get hooked initially, but hate it with continued use. Yet it still has that carrot on a stick that players may feel needs to be grabbed.

That addiction will wear off after the 4th resto staff in a row. I think I saw every resto trait and snb trait before getting my first lightning staff.

It might be fun the first times you run it. It's a good skill check.

But then, sooner than you can ever realize, you'll yourself grinding it for that bloody damn weapon that doesn't drop.

When there is no lag and you are running through it with a stam sorc in 5VO..boy is it breezecity. Makes life easier, until that chest opens...I got 2h axe/inferno and axe dagger sharpened all within like 10 or so runs including 4 weeklys since I came back. If I didnt get those and had to continously farm I would prob be slowly brain dead spamming spin to win lol..If you are the type who is playing for scores or just to enjoy the arena, I feel that. It can be nice.

Addiction studies have consistently shown that the it's not always the "high" that forms the basis of the addiction ... often it is the "low".
Addicted gamblers for example, are almost always subconsciously addicted to losing, more than winning.

I'm over and over and over again disappointed by the contents of the maelstrom chest - and as I always say the "Theater of Despair" is the most inadvertantly appropo area name in the game - but for some reason I still always find myself running the damn thing, over and over and over ... not sure where masochism ends, and addiction begins ... but Maelstrom resides there in the borderlands of disappointment for sure.

vMA is not addicting to me or any of my friends. It's literally the opposite - we avoid it. Finished it for the achievements, then never went back. Without some sort of token system, I'll never touch it again. Nearly left the game over it.

I like it because it because it is fun currently, but like everyone said after a while I probably will get bored of it

I was stuck on it for a long time the first time. All you have to do is prioritize targets.
