ESO PVP Gameplay

Hello everyone,

I'm a MMORPG fan and have been playing the games in this genre for years. I have been playing ESO for the last year and i love it except for pvp part. I would like to share my thoughts from a point of new player who wishes the game goes in the direction to become one of the best mmorpg ever (unfortunately there are not many).

- Everyone being able to be both defensive and offensive is a deal breaker. You can have builds that can keep you alive for too long even tho lots of people are hitting you and plus, you can still be great damage dealer. You don't really have to sacrifice anything. This results in having fights last way too long, lots of adds come in and spoil the fun. It also feels bad that your attacks and tactics don't really matter much since one can have absorb shields up all the time or heal up to full health etc.

I think if you want to go full offensive, you should be very fragile and if you go full defensive, you shouldn't be dealing much damage. People should be able to play around to find best level of offence and defence for their playstyle without having both sides advantageous.

- Another problem is that there is no reason for people to go and pvp at places other than the same castles people fight around. This is not such a big issue actually, I can live with it but it would be nice to have a chance to find people anywhere in the map and have surprise fights (small scale). It would be nice to see some reasons given to spread people around the map for better experience.

I hope i was able to explain what i think the game is missing in pvp part. I find lots of players not finding any interest in pvp for these reasons. I also have some friends who just refuse to play because they don't like the pvp in eso. If pvp could be fixed into something better, i'm sure the game will attract huge amount of players since there is not any good mmorpg in the market.

I love the game btw! Cheers!

you definitely have some legitimate points...one thing I enjoyed most about the "no cp" campaign week was how fast everyone (including myself) was dying...

part of the issue is that cyrodiil was created with one thing in mind (soft caps and larger populations), but, it's turned into something else...

I'm not sure at this point what zos can do to "fix" it for everyone...thankfully, my expectations on what a video game can do for me are fairly low - so, for the most part, I have a great time whenever I log in to go fight with folks...

I think this is actually a really important point because after playing ESO PVP for 2+ years, the fact that you play around the same few castles gets EXTREMELY STALE really fast, which Is why Battlegrounds will be a relief for all of us pvp'ers

So while I hear your frustration, the fact that you can be offensively and defensively potent is what allows for solo and small group players to function. Without the ability to cover all the bases, numbers would be the only determining factor in any fight and thats lame. You are wrong though that there is no sacrifice involved. A fully offensive glass cannon build will never be as survivable as a defensive oriented build, and vice versa. The builds you speak of are most likely not fully offensive or defensive but more balanced than you might be aware of.

The frustrations you’re expressing indicate a situation where less skilled or experienced players come across more skilled or experienced players. The reality is, unless the outnumbered party is a pure tank that deals no damage, they will have to play extremely defensively and die real quick in a matchup of equal strength players. Scenarios like the one you describe only happen when there is a huge discrepancy in player skill in a match up. And in that case, the fight should be drawn out.

What you’re asking for is to strip away the ability for player skill to shine through and for numbers to basically always determine a fight and I can never support that.

As to OP i agree the game is at this state where people can infinite sustain and deal good damage but you HAVE to have a good build.

Most of those players like myself have near bis gear that gives us the tools to do it.

It also takes HOURS to farm the exact pieces you want so i would say its well deserving.

May i ask what gear sets you wear and for what class?

Wait for the champion system changes; magic and stamina ability cost reductions are to be removed, regeneration passives reduced to 16% from 25%, the new "when light/heavy attacking, reduce all regeneration by x% for 3 seconds", and dodge roll and break free from Tumbling gets split into their own passives.

This should force high maximizing builds to allocate some sustain, hoping these changes pass, the game is easy and the champion system was breaking.

Raise the floor, lower the ceiling.

Yeap! Wouldn't it be nice to see people forming groups of 4 or less and running around to find other small groups or solo to fight with in open world instead of queueing for battlegrounds for arena match?

    @CyrusArya

I'm not really frustrated, i'm just not able to have fun with this system and i think there is a huge potential with this game that shouldn't be thrown away. And no i don't really say strip away the ability but make it less effective depending on the choice between being offensive or defensive. So that the player can balance their toons as per their play style.

Let's say there is a total number of 10. If you want to have 7 offense points, you should not have more than 3 defense points. just simplifying it..

    @Ihatenightblades

I have made all classes to learn the game but my main toon is magplar. I use 5 rattle 5 tbs 2 skoria, 5-1-1. im very happy with it.

    @SirMewser
That sounds like a good way to go. i'm not sure if it will be enough to solve the problem.

Back in the beginning it was a lots of activity ganking on the supply lines between enemy keep and siege,
This worked well for the stranglers, getting 60 players ride over you while sneaking is scary :)
Also taking resources, and going after forward camps. My best carrier move in PvP was to die, in an place the enemy liked to put up the camp :)

The problem here is zos is gauging their success based on finances and stats available like how many players are playing and new sign ups.

Until they see a dip in revenue or player base we likely wont see a lot of moving and sweeping changes any time soon.

For instance look at group finder....

How many people still play pvp even though there some serious messed up issues?

Just saying from their point of view they are succesful with band aiding a broken game into a cash cow, and have no need to spend the resources to fix it until it stalls or breaks.

Your lack in build is tbs . Theres your problem compare that to a 5 piece like 5 desert rose 5 rattlecage. To me rattle cage lacks something it gives a bunch of spell damage but no magicka bonus or recovery bonus.

For magplar i use 5 soulshrine 5 lich 2 grothdar and i have PLENTY damage and sustain.
I would recommend that over 5 rattle 5tbs but up to :)

Edit - i even run thief mundus with inner light and still never run out of magicka or even close so its nice to have 50% crit with high damage output.

Tbs lets say you put mundus for thief and atro for magicka recovery. You would still have more recovery wjth lich and soulshrine would give you more damage also so both sets would be better then rattle and tbs

Not saying you should do it but if u expect to he more meta thats what it takes

na i don't really have any problems with my build, my main post is not about not being able to perform in the system, im able to compete. I just don't like how the system works.

I love rattle and tbs and never gonna give them up :)

more freedom, more choice is always good in regards to "open worlds" - can't wait for the new spiderman game :)

i remember the first time I had a lot of fights around rayles and warden - I had been pvping for almost a year and had never really fought much there...brindle is still a bit of a mystery to me...

cyrodiil is a big map, a really big map...

I still dream of having some zerg versus zerg action in cheydinhal, my favorite city there...or some action around the lava split in chorrol...

my ideal pvp was actually the old arena district in imperial city before flags and sewer rezz's were implemented...my only complaint was the location of the AD platform - wish it could have been part of a triangle with the DC and EP platforms...

mindless melee's fighting over chests; pairing up to 1v1, fighting for the arena, 20 v 20 v 4 by the cages and portal (much respect to those AD good enough to jump in the middle)...non stop action nearly 24 hours a day...

I understand though that there are a lot of players out there whom are much more concerned with "balance" and "fairplay"...

for myself it's more about relaxation and entertainment..

    This is a LTP issue.

You come off as salty that people you can't kill can kill you and blame the balance of the game.

This is not cod. You are not on a even playing field as new player. Expect to put in hundreds of hours in PVP after you reach cap to even have a chance at playing solo.

Most people who say the PVP is bad don't want to put in the time to get to that level or even think they have to skill to compete if they did.

    Cheers!

Would be nice to fight in other parts of the map but other than that; I like PVP how it is. I don't see both tank and damage in any single builds in Azuras beyond what seems reasonable as far as just having a balanced build, and I prefer Cyrodiil over other games battle ground focus or the couple that do have siege battles at all even given its flaws. Now they are adding battle grounds here so even better.

The first issue is gonna be fixed in the next patch, with changes to CP system.

The second issue is a totally legit one, Cyrodiil's map has to be redesigned. We need 50 flags or more all across the map. Actual capture points, not like those resources near the Keeps.

Another reason it might have been designed for longer fights, is the distance you have to travel to get back in the fight. I know soul gems, but soul gems used to be level based and thus harder to horde.
