is this quest bugged or am i a really bad thief? :P

i already tried this one with 3 characters and i'm always caught stealing the apple.
1. i tried to sneak normally - it doesn't work.
2. i waited until there wasn't one single NPC around - got bounty anyway.
3. finally i used an essence of invisibility - immediately i got caught.

so... anyone found a way to catch the apple without being spotted?

Got caught on 2 characters as well. Also witnessed others being witnessed. So no, not found a way to remain undetected.

I somehow managed to do it on my main char just horse backing to the guy, and my sneaker just running faster than he did

Oh, didn't notice woops I was talking about the butcher and pig, is there a hidden achievement with the apples or something?

My main thief got caught... I don't know how. But somehow my stompy heavy armour DK managed to grab an apple without a bounty. I'm still puzzled.

I got a bounty immediately. LOL. It was hilarious. I'm going to do the jester's quests over again with a different character soon, and I'll make dang sure she doesn't have any stolen items in her inventory first, just in case she gets caught.

The bug is the NPC - she was dead for one of my characters yet I was still 100% detected from any angle.

For some idiot reason, stealing from that basket unstealths me. I call shenanigans (bugged).

Whether you managed to avoid detection or not, the Apple basket is definitely bugged.

Because an invis potion is supposed to stay in effect - and does for all other stealing like locked chests, crates, etc - but it is unmasked soon as you interact with the apple basket.

Not a huge deal as no achieve tied to it like the avoid butcher one, but annoying when you do these on many alt chars and each gets an auto bounty.

I ended up getting caught after picking the apple (everyone loves invisible guards) and I paid a bounty, it made no difference to the quest progression so I suppose I don't care about the fact I get caught stealing.

Even with a bounty, it is possible to navigate through Ebonheart without getting caught. I only managed to get away without a bounty once, and this because someone went all serial killer and no one was alive.

It's either bugged or they WANT you to get a bounty. 139 gold (and every stolen item on me, or 5 minutes of sitting around doing nothing while the bounty expires) for a lousy crapple.

It is bugged. I went there with my Nightblade thief and some guy just Blade of Woe'd every NPC in the area and we still got bounties.

I would agree on bugged. My Bosmer NB and her tiny tiny stealth radius got detected even though there was no one around. This is the same one that can stand directly behind someone in PVP and not be seen. Doesn't seem to affect the achievement though.

Some kindly murderer killed all the people inside the apple building. It was the only time I got apples without bounty.

I don't even bother trying no more. I just go and grab them because I know I'm gonna get the bounty anyway. pain in the ass.

Yep, that's the only time I managed to do this quest without receiving a bounty, when some guy murdered everyone in the building. Shame it has to come to that.

I was able to steal the apple twice without getting caught. I was inside the wagon both times and waited until I was sure every NPC I could see was looking the other way. Probably just coincidence that it worked in the wagon...

I have tons of counterfeit pardons so I stopped wasting time waiting for the NPCs to look away and just grab the apples without care.

I've done this on all classes and got the achievement first try without even noticing the achievement. Don't understand how people struggle so o.o

nobody's talking about that easy achievement but i'm surprised that you didn't find hard to get the apple without a bounty

click E to feed pig
click H to ride on mount
click 5 or w/e you have for rapid manuver
go to quest icon directly
achievement done with 2 or 3 calories burnt

i think that this was the faster and easiest achievement to get, but please explain us how you managed to have no bounty after taking the apples. the rest... we all know :P

i did this dozens of times with a few characters and i think that i only managed to get the apple without a bounty for 2 or 3 times

The entire quest is kinda obtuse and counterintuitive.

The apples are a quest item, so they're not confiscated by the guards.

The basket is an interact, not a container, so it breaks stealth when used.

The butcher "sees" you if you get inside a hidden AoE, if you're in stealth or not.

You can stop and pay off your bounty mid quest without any penalty.

The whole thing is weird, and not in the, "you're stealing a pig for a Khajiit who thinks he's a Nord, or at least refuses to break character," kind of way.

Hire a local dark brotherhood member to slaughter all the innocents in the area... You don't even need a basket then!
