Magicka Dps Dual Swords with Attack Weaving

For my magicka dps templar I've been considering swapping out my front bar inferno staff for dual swords, just keeping my lightening on the back bar. When using swords, do you just get in close and light attack weave sword strikes between each skill, or is it pointless due to no cp points or weapon damage to buff it? If it is pointless, does the damage boost dual swords gives out weight the dps loss in losing staff based light attack weaving?

I have been weaving in light attacks so I can get ultimate. I don't know if this is actually ideal, considering how weak the attack ends up being.

The mean DPS for this setup was 40742 with a SD of 968.

I'm not sure whether your setup with 2 Grothdarr, 5 Julianos, 5 Moondancer, VMA Lightning frontbar is very practical. I feel that it will be very clunky to bar swap to get synergies and then bar swap to continue what you were doing. Anyway, I simulated it and as I usually do for sets that have Moondancer on one bar I give it to both bars so it's sort of saying that you bar swap to synergise (if you don't have the spell damage buff already) every 15s and there is no time penalty for doing so. I got a mean DPS of 40146 with a SD of 1142.

Those perfect weaves are incredible aren't they.

As you can see perfect weaving can make a huge difference in favour of the dual staff setup. The worse your weaving is, the more you will profit from dual swords.

I tend to weave between every skill and attack where possible, so I guess 2 swords is going to be a net loss until I'm executing with Jesus beam. Perhaps rework my skills layout, front bar my staff with main attack skills, move the swords and radiant oppression to the back bar...

That way I'd still have the weaving in general, but amp up the power of the execute with the sword. Except for blockade, most of the back bar is templar skills that are applied and left for a while, so the couple of weaves I'd lose would most likely be negated and surpassed in dps potential by the swords powering up the beam.

It is kind-of a weird that a "mage" is stronger when holding 2 swords / 2 daggers rather than a staff...

Currently you will have better "short" DPS when using Dual Swords. If you want to have good "sustain DPS" you will have to use destro - staff. You basically sacrifice resource recovery for more DMG (and when you run out of resources you can't do more dmg).

As a templar. You will have a firestaff offbar for long DOTs, buffs. So if you need magick restore with heavy attacks you have them on your offbar. As for light attacking, yes you will still light attack, you have enchantments on your swords that need to be procced. The absolute best damage you get to ALL skills is from swords, so when you drop all your buffs and long DOTs on ur staff bar, they deal less damage, but switching to ur sword bar, all those skills damage goes up. Adding up over time to huge increases to DPS.

There is no damage boost from dual swords anymore.

The only pro for dual swords atm is that extra 5 pc set effect. But no, it won't ever outweigh destro staff weaving. Remember, destro staff now gives you 8% bonus damage to singletarget or aoe attacks. I tried hard to make it work, but you won't make it work, don't bother.

I thought that this was debated and it was found that the sword buff was nerfed slightly, but still present and out performing staffs for raw damage per skill? I saw another thread discussing this after homestead.

It's all about the vMSA detro bonus. If you don't have a vMSA fire destruction staff you will lose several thousand DPS on the tests @Asayre performed above.

Your Dual Wield light attacks are around 1500-2000, while your light attacks with vMSA destro staff will be in the 5000 range while wall of elements is down.

I have no vMA destro staff. This would be IA destro vs dual torugs swords. The IA would be a 4 piece, but the dual swords would provide the same bonus as a 2 piece. All are sharpened traits
