They purposely do things to annoy and make you screw up with crafting - like putting steal-able items right next to the writ return crates...
You mean you would rather have writs that use up more mats by asking for large pieces?
It does! But me and you are just weird. I have a horrible memory (short term especially) and I'm also easily distracted, so I have learned to repeat it a couple times in the order they appear at the crafting table. In the example above "shoes, hat, sash, shoes hat sash". That little bit of extra time it would take to do it in the order in the quest could be just enough time for something to distract me. I'm sure there's been times it's taken me a half hour to my writs on one character. I even used to write them down when I first started doing them.

That is standard in TES, stole all the stuff from the desk on an shopkeeper in Oblivion to stop me from stealing by mistake. They purposely do things to annoy and make you screw up with crafting - like putting steal-able items right next to the writ return crates, or making the crafting table craft selections change at inopportune times!
