The Lag in Cyrodiil is so bad - Gonna need some new servers

Playing on Xbox NA for Haderus mainly. This is last crown jewel of campaigns for Xbox. I have heard talk before about all the champion point passives that could be the main source of the problem. I love the event and the effort on you're part and really hope this gives you a window of solution.

Honestly i do not think the cp made to much of a difference. playing over 10 hours the other day during the event it almost seems like its Worse? (Probably due to Double AP incentive, more people playing etc.)

I understand the que times too, more people means a longer wait. But when you get qued at 80 than half hour after you are in you get crashed out. (my NAT type is OPEN, 140mbps, direct connect, specs are good)

Tonight at Sejanus when all 3 alliances were going at it, the lag was to the point where its unplayable. Now if you are like me ( which i assume most avid pvpers are) than you get use to the lag and keep playing, even though its to the point where you need to double tap every ability press, constantly have your ranged attacks getting delayed, double tap your bar swaps ( which sometimes gives you 2 switches even though abilities always need 2 presses?). We all know the lag, and im sure we are used to it. But i'm sorry but the lag is awful, there needs to be a smaller cap pop put into place or better servers or tune down the FX.


Look i am not trying to write a story ( too late) and yes my solutions are worth less than dirt considering i have no idea the cost, effort or time for these problems i am typing about. But the lag is very bad, getting kicked out and re queing is bad. Dying than lagging out, re-logging in to have a corpse of your character unable to respawn unless you get lucky and a person revives you. That is bad. (get me unstuck does not work for this, Oh and thanks for the Hour cooldown on that).


I really hope the next 4 days give you some good stats, this pvp is great and i really hope you don't take advantage of your pvp player base by letting Cyrodiil slide and hoping they will keep sucking it up because they love the pvp so much. Because thats it in a nutshell at this point.

    Also, my other theory, which I have had ever since ESO launched is that Matt Firor is using the REAL MEGASERVER as a coffee table!

    Grinding just make you go in circles.

    Of course it lags as more people are playing because of 2x AP. Also what if would not lag at all without CP it would mean that the sole issue of cyro lag has always been CP Passives even before CP was in the game. Also not much useful data could be collected if everything would just run smoothly. You can think that when it lags Zos is getting valuable information of the things that contribute to lag, they hopefully can adjust those and lessen the lag. There is so many things contributing to the lag that it will never go totally away but it can be improved.

    edit. and do you people who joke about megaserver actually understand what it is.

    There are games where 20, 30, 50 people at one place don't cause lags. WoW is an example, FF XIV is another example (not even on PS4) and many other MMOs are - all of them having specific servers and not a clustered megaserver.

    So it's either ZOS approach of the megaserver technology or ESOs engine is just pretty bad and not able to deal with more than X people fighting at the same spot.

    Cyrodil is not a megaserver. There are differant servers to join. I play on eu pc and havent a problem with performance this week while playing on trueflame or azura (must say that i never hadve probs on no cp campains). Also they guys with that i was playing have a better performance as normal. But what i am reading is that in moast case consol players have more problems than pc players.

    There's the problem. Console PvP is still lagging without CP. I guess it's due to inferior hardware

    Combat mechanics in WOW is simpler and far less real time than ESO.
    ESO code might well be badly optimized, current test is a lot about that.
    ESO is more graphic demanding and people tend to optimize graphic settings for questing not zergs, this causes lag on client side.

    Mega server causes long loading time on changing zone and the issue that people end up in different instances.
    You also get lag in zones if too many people is in one tiny area like Rawl'kwa not spread out over the map.
    it has the benefit of keeping population in low pop zones up and let everybody play together.

    Cyrodil run as an separate instance and is not affected at all outside of load time on enter.
    WOW also do this for dungeons and battlegrounds, you group with players from other servers. You can however never meet in the game.

    They should just give Cyrodiil it's own server entirely. Separate from Imperial City even, Increase the population, remove the bot netcode & the resource nodes. That way no bots and then Market the hell out of it for a few months and then WHAM! New "game" almost :wink:

    Especially if it will not lag then many many people will join in, I think the casuals and the hard core players don't play too much all the time, just a lot some of the time because of the fear of lag. Also if they up the pop cap then there might even be less zergs because people could spread out more evenly (one can be hopeful at least :smile: )

    I see everyone complaining about lag in Cyrodiil. But maybe, just maybe its the internetconnection you guys have, as I see tons of people saying the lag has actually improved. Check your own pc / internet-connection first before making these topics please. Its getting old...

    I've actually seen some posters whiteknighting ZoS with some seemingly reasonable arguments. However, I went back to check the original thread to see how much more double AP there is and...
    Simply put, Azura’s Star (the non-Champion Point campaign) runs much better, more efficiently, and is overall a much better PvP experience than the standard campaigns such as Trueflame or Haderus. Now that we’ve had a significant population density in Azura’s Star, we strongly suspect what has been theorized for a long time: Champion Rank passives and abilities are causing too much server load, especially in situations like Keep battles where there are tons of players in one place.

    Yeah, as far as Xbox NA goes -- the lag has stayed the same. I also don't buy the argument of "More people playing = More lag" because while that is a true statement, Xbox NA Haderus is poplocked from 2pm-2am every day for as long as I can remember. So I can't see how there can be more players on a server that's already been at max capacity.

    This was absolutely a stress test, but they also "Strongly suspected" that CP was causing too much server load, and that disabling it would cause a noticeable increase in performance.

    Decided to try and enter Thornblade last night to see if I could actually play on the server for once, I got into the campaign got to the area where everyone was fighting, froze and lagged out. TWICE. So back to Haderus for me :)

    I wonder has anyone set up proxy and monitored package size and traffic of ESO. It would be quite interesting information to know how big packages are moving and how much data is moving in order to have things work this would also tell us a bit if eg 10/1 connection is barely enough to handle the game traffic etc.

    And what contributes to lag we have to remember it's not only peoples own connection but if other people have bad connections it will contribute to your lag as your game has to wait for the information that is sent by that player with bad connection.
