The basics of Homestead are awesome, but I do have a few ideas.
- Having mounts/pets/NPCs (bards/farmers/caretakers/etc.) actually inhabit the place. I don't need storage, but I need to have a feeling of immersion when creating a homestead (see Fallout 4 for reference). This means having them sleep in designated beds, interact with the items (go cooking/fishing/crafting/sit down/read/etc.).
- Have a copy of the crown assistants living there; access to bank and merchant would add greatly to the functionality so the house could actually be a place you would travel to by default when needing to empty bags and what not and not "just" a place to decorate.
- Increase the item cap by 3 or 4 times at least. Is there even a house large enough to support every single one of the veteran dungeon statues?
- This one's a little weird but say I stand outside Gardner House on the busiest street in Tamriel. I then zone in and peer over the wall, and *crickets*. At least put some NPCs out there so it feels like I'm living in a city.
- Make something (like a daily log in bonus) as a gift for visiting. Like the spouses in Skyrim give you food or whatever. Something small for my immersion, and another reason to visit other than staring at my own decor.
- Give a small xp bonus for having slept in your own home (5-10% for 1 hour is fine). Again, it's purely for immersive purposes.
- On the same note make ALL furniture interactable. We should be able to sleep in beds, sit on chairs/benches, and eat the food on the table.
- Livestock. Having the mounts and non-combat pets is cool (if they were to actually roam, right now it's just creepy), but we should have cows and sheep and chickens that need feeding and watering.
- Crops. Let us grow alchemy and provisioning materials. Nothing overpowered obviously. When implementing this stuff think "immersion" not "bonus".
- Visitors. Have NPC travellers pop by every now and then and converse with the NPCs that live there already.
- Featured Homes. Have some sort of interface where a list of "editor's choice" houses are featured for visitation by others so we can see the wonderful creations our fellow players have made. Maybe even have a vote and a prize or something along those lines. Again, think immersion and fun, not bonus.
- Armor and weapon displays. There are some amazing looking armors out there. If I could display them in my home that would be great. Or a way to display collected dropped or quest disguises. I want my home to be a museum to my achievements in Tamriel and a way to display all the adventures I've been on.
- Actual working bookcases (Skyrim style). Same point as above.
A lot of the ideas mentioned are good ones, especially the ones that look beyond the simple request for more storage as housing is about so much more than that, but my one caveat is that I don't support making houses so useful that they do away with the need for players to visit cities. That has led in other games to the cities becoming deserted and gives a poor indication of the game's population strength when new players log in - especially when guildhalls are introduced rather than just personal housing. It shouldn't be possible for any player to complete all his non-combat content from within a private instance.
Increasing the furnishing cap would be my main priority, as coding optimisation permits it without impacting on performance.
