Creating floors and stairs for my house

I saw some players using wooden planks to create additional floors and piles of stone to create stairs in their houses. Which recipes are the best for these kind of things?

There are some planks you can buy from the generic furnishers. If you want something fancier I recommend Orcish Block, Platform. (But as a side note--don't use that one for a wall, because it has feet.)

Some vendors have more of a selection, I understand. I went to the hollow city where there are narrow planks and wider planks, same with stone.

I would suggest buying one of each size to see how you like the size before going all in. We cannot return the items.
