ZoS use a cheap ass method from what i can tell. Rather than do what every other dev does (give us incremental patches), we get one large patch that obviously uses a different method of downloading to everyone else. Take the 1T update for example, I downloaded 2 large games in 1/4 of the time it took that patch to download even though it was by far the smallest of all 3. The one before that was the same. I think the 1T patch was something around 12 hours on my PS4. My PS4 runs at a steady 80mbps. It's like being back on dial up whenever a ESO patch is downloading.

For the PC it depended which version of Tamriel you were on. Those of us in EU Tamriel had a much longer wait.

Honestly though for a significant update like this then you should expect at least six hours downtime and probably more.

Mine runs at a steady 150 mbps, and it only takes around an hour to dl any update at the most. The trick is to leave the console in rest mode. If you're playing other games while it's downloading, of course it will take longer! It's about bandwidth.

Yet every other game and patch I have downloaded, download in no time. Even if my PS4 is in rest mode, ESO patches take waaaaaaaaaaaaay longer than anything else. I can download games twice as large (some a lot larger) as any ESO patch and they only take a fraction of the time. Iirc, the forums were littered by posts from people experiencing the same turtle esque downloads.

If other patches and other downloads were as sluggish as every ESO patch update at my end, I'd agree with you entirely that rest mode is best, but it makes no difference. 6 hour ESO patch will take 6 hours.

I expect 4-6 hours downtime and a couple of hours for me to download.
Fortunately I am an hour away from going to bed now and I will make sure the update is downloading before I go to work in the morning so it should be ready to play when I get home from work tomorrow.

Still say problem is on your end. Leaving the console in rest mode, i even dl'ed update 12 in like half an hour (that one was the fastest in my memory). No ESO update has ever taken me more than an hour at the very most to dl.

Judging by how incredibly slowly my console downloads ESO patches, it may be Sunday afternoon before it fully downloads....having said that I have booked this week off work, so it may be downloaded by Friday. Aha.

Tamriel xBox EU should be preparing for a one Khajiit crime wave. The forecast is for empty pockets and safeboxes, sacks and nightstands, crates and cupboards. Oh, and one rich and happy Khajiit.

Should be soon, historically it's 4hrs for updates and 2-3 for maintenance. If you are online now kill the game / restart and try at 1GMT it should just say ESO requires an update size 300TB or something stupid like that. It's not out yet I keep checking every 30 mins.

Yeah that's why I already started my XBox because I don't want to download for hours when the maintenance is finished... pretty lame that we can't get the update as soon as the servers come down.

I know..usually they send it through like 30 mins before its stated as complete above. I sometimes find though the crappy console won't pull an update through if it's turned on already. Mine seems to only like doing it if it's turned off or turn it on once the update has gone through and attempt to start the game and that'll prompt it. Quality Microsoft for you.

LOL it still prefer it to Sony, never had any problems with my XBox yet (unless you count my 72GB ESO installation as a problem). Downloading huge patches on PS4 is a pain and takes hours and hours and hours because of Sony's cheap and bad servers.

Yes, likely the usual 6 to 8 hours to include download and installation.. (followed by hours or days of some technical issues.. cough, cough.) Good day to do some real work, go grocery shopping, and window shop at the local hair/nails salon. Also, been wanting to try out this new Chinese restaurant that many people are raving about.

Sony still restrict thier speeds iirc. 1T I had it at 118MB/S on XBL. Not bad given the myth it's capped at 60.

Just don't do a Dezzy and uninstall the game looking for an update. Took him 9hrs to download the game again and THEN orsinium on top.

Patches don't usually take hours and hours to download for me. The longest an ESO patch has taken me to download was like 1.5hrs. I think. And that was for 1T.

Ah, I see. I apologize to hear that. I've had relatively great experiences with PSN for as far back as I can remember. Tons upon tons of free games back on PS3 (Resident Evil classics, Street Fighter games, Rockstar classics like GTA:SA and GTA3), free data back-ups, etc. I can't really complain. As for other games patch download speeds, they're usually way faster than ESO. For example, a GTA5 patch that's 5 or so GB's can be downloaded within 5-10mins. And I'm good to play. Overwatch patches are usually 1-2GB's, and I can bang those out within a few minutes as well. So maybe it's your connection perhaps. I don't know. :(

My connection is working great on PC and XBox, that's the funny thing. It's the DNS issue many PS4 players had and still have. I never figured out how to solve this issue (like thousands and thousands of other PS4 players lol). Sometimes downloading worked but most times it was really slow like 80kb/s instead of 5MB/sec.

Patches don't usually take hours and hours to download for me. The longest an ESO patch has taken me to download was like 1.5hrs. I think. And that was for 1T.

I'm not talking about ESO patches but updates for other games. One reason I got rid of my PS4 and got an XBox were the horrible PSN servers. In 2 years I only had negative experiences with the Playstation Network, downloading updates / games and the PSN overall.

The solution is to manually set your DNS on the playstation to something other than your ISP like OpenDNS.
Switching away from my default Comcast DNS made all the difference in the world so much so I even changed it in my main router for all my devices.
