Ping.

Please, just fix the ping, people should not be on a constant 100+ ping and 300+ ping in PVP, just add another server or something.

Morrowind will bring alot of players, you must know that when all these people log in and play, the game will literally be unplayable.

Everyone told ZOS this before 1T and they ignored us, sure enough performance took a hit then and they did not fix it. So long as we keep lapping up what they serve, they'll keep slopping out mediocre fayre.

I just had 2 buzz crashes and about 3 fps if I was lucky in Haderus. XB1 NA. Even the norm dungeons were tough with lag and unresponsive controls. Meh, just some days it works and most days it doesn't. I've come to expect crap server performance and try to really enjoy those days where it actually does work (tho not in PvP that's just a broken cluster)

I play games for pvp, it's what I enjoy, but I'll probably quit soon because I'm just unable to play pvp during the day because of a constant 300+ ping.

Constant 100+ and 300+ ping in PvP? Wow. Must really suck to have those numbers constantly in an area with no phasing.

I am on PC EU and have also noticed an increase in ping. I am in the US, so I always had higher ping, but in the beginning the game was most definitely playable. Now, though, it has become a nightmare of lag, choppy game play, skills now working, game freezing, etc and it is steadily getting worse and is very close to becoming unplayable. I am currently starting over (sigh) on the US server to see if that helps, but I am not really sure I want to go through all I will have to go through to get back to where my EU characters are now.

I don't know anything about maintaining servers, or how all this stuff works, but what could they have done to make ping get worse? It most certainly HAS gotten worse, but I thought your ping had to do with how far it has to travel, what stops it makes on the way, etc. Anybody know what could be causing this?

Pfft, try living in the country with satellite internet. I'd be happier than a school girl on her birthday if I could have 300 ping. 100 ping is absolutely nothing

PING is the round trip time from your PC to their server, and back. It can be slowed by your LAN, the Internet, the ZOS LAN, your PC performance (slow processing of network packets) and poor ZOS server performance (poor processing of packets), and implicity poor performance of any kit on the route between you and them.

    These posts need more visibility.

The game is in an absolutely terrible state. It's completely pointless to bother with anything serious because you just know you can't perform to 100% of your ability because the servers will inhibit you in some way. Whether that's slow bar-swapping, unresponsive skills, high ping spikes, disconnects, etc. is all part of the adventure.

Once Morrowind drops I fully expect the servers to be even worse, if that's even possible. Maybe then ZOS will actually deal with them, but I doubt it.

    ZOS fix your *** please.

ZOS had this to say about Cyrodiil performance in their "Welcome to 2017" letter:

As for Cyrodiil: we know that performance (both server and client) is often not up to par, to put it mildly. These problems particularly plague Champion-ranked Campaigns and, coupled with some of the balance issues and bugs that are still present, result in an often-frustrating experience for some players. We will be addressing this in 2017 – from Champion System performance to class/armor balance to client/server performance in large battles. This is a priority for us, but as these issues are extremely complex, we will be re-thinking how some of the systems in the game interact with each other; changes of this magnitude cannot happen quickly. We are not taking this lightly – change needs to happen. We will have lots more information on Cyrodiil balance and fixes shortly, but right now, we are focusing on investigating and testing different options.

I was pleased to see the issue acknowledged. That being said, hearing this after a year of terrible performance with little to no conversation from ZOS about performance and fixing the problem, I do not have much faith that ZOS will fix or even have conversation it good time as 2017 continues.

At the very least, I would like to see ZOS be a bit more transparent with the issues and give regular updates as to their progress. That's is how you build confidence and a strong following. Not by remaining silent for a year.

Relax, I'm sure Zeny sorted this out during the recent playtest event and is giving 'top priority' to any ping issues.
I would say check out the youtube/streams of some the playtest team and you will find they are already making this a big focus. ;)

Thank you for the explanation! Since nothing has changed on my end, then would I be right in assuming that an increase in the number of people playing could be causing their servers to be the chokepoint? It seems to me that there has been a slow but steady increase in the number of people playing this game since the beginning, and that would seem to match up with my slow but steady ping increase, and increasingly bad game performance.

on the NA server i get anything from 250+ to 300/400 and bouts of 999+, i recently started playing on the EU server again which i started on back in the day, it is now almost unplayable, everything else i play is stable, a friend in EU commented that he usually gets a 15 or so ping but even for him ESO is pinging around 80, so its not at our end.

100 ping I wish, my average ping is 300 and I regularly play in Cyrodiil above 320.

IME performance took a nose dive around the release of One Tamriel. I think this caused more people to join the game (a good thing of course, commercially speaking), it also introduced duelling which probably caused an increasing in processing overhead at the ZOS end due to all the calculations for these ad-hoc new combat situations, I think the fact that people now roam the entire world just made the world a more busy place, certainly I've never seen the game so busy and I've been here since beta.

You're not alone here. I have a top flight PC, as does my son, and performance in this game is dire. I usually get a relatively good PING compared to some - generally between 60-120ms on the PC-EU server depending where I am logging in from - but the game is just sluggish. Even in dungeons, which used to be great, I cannot rely on speedy bar-swapping, sometimes I cannot be sure if I've taunted a boss or not as the lag is so bad, it seems the taunt happens about a second after I've triggered it. It's just unpleasant to play the game now as it's so unresponsive. It's like driving an underpowered car, sure stuff happens, but way after you've pressed the throttle.

I'm fortunate in that I have three homes and ESO is installed in each. Two homes have fibre and one has ADSL, all are in UK/EU. PING for ESO is consistently higher than any other game, although my Ping is good compared to a lot of people here. With a modern game like Overwatch I get a Ping of around 20ms, ESO is up to 120 (and sometimes over with massive spikes up to a few seconds). And it does not matter that much whether I'm on low contention business SLA fibre, or what is a comparitively low speed ADSL connection in the foothills of some mountains, the ESO ping is still relatively weak compared to other games.

I am spending increasing amounts of time back in FF14, which is a slick game in comparison to ESO. And I will not touch Cyrodiil in ESO as the lag there makes it unplayable.

Fingers crossed for an overhaul from ZOS, but I simply do not trust them to efffectively manage this once great game.

honestly - if they just said more servers are coming- and theyre working on it- id be content. but who knows if it will ever get better? morrowind will bring more players- heavier demands- are they really going to leave it like this?
I'm just copy pasting my comment from another thread - because as another said - i want these comments to gain more visibility > traction > acknowledgment > and hopefully a resolution.

for me - an oceanic/asia resident on the EU - the game has been un playable.
when i started the pings were a steady 250. i took a holiday to europe for a week and my dps went up 10k.
after one tamriel- the pings went progressively worse - 350-400- good enough for me to at least do malesrom= but terrible if i wanted to pvp and be competitive. a 100 ping difference is the difference between being able to cc break- or taking an incap strike to the face.

Now? after homestead my pings are 400-500 with steady spikes to 600 and more. i can't play the game anymore but to go feed my horses and do my writs. trying to figure out my next step- because this is awful. i dont know whether to start again on the NA or sit and wait/pray for a japanese server to come up....or move to europe.

but i do hpe zos take all the money from our crowns and buys some bigger better servers cos this is by far the worst performing game right now. and thats not speculation- thats confirmed- my friend owns a gaming cafe down the road and this game spikes worse than any other, sure we're in oceania/asia- but every other game has worked out how to accommodate the most populous region on earth.
