An idea to further enhance character customization & help players acheive their signiture look.

Hello, everyone! And well met!

I have come up with an idea. One to further character customization and to somewhat satisfy the need for a transmog system with out all the converting and so on. If you are interested, please read on...

I love to give my character individuality & a signiture look that best fits their personality that was associated with them upon their creation. And I know many other players love that too, whether for Roleplay or not. But often times in order to achieve a certain build or play style, equipment sets are needed. These sets each have their own distinct style, but their visual appearance don't necessarily appeal to everyone's taste.
Their is also the complaint I often hear from players wanting to have the visual style of a lower level racial motif armor piece on their higher level character without cripling their stats. Or liking the appearance of an armor piece of a certain style, but not so much the appearance of the other pieces, which is frustrating when wearing a set with a certain style and having some pieces of gear that do not visualy appeal to you.
Sometimes their is a costume you really like, but their's just that one piece of gear that is off to you.( I mean this for costumes that use in games motif styles like: shrouded armor, theives guild leathers, wood elf vanguard, etc...)

I'm sure that people would love mixing and matching motif style armor pieces with each other to look awesome without cripling their stats or play-style as much as I would. So I came up with a solution.

I call this feature: Appearance save

How it would work:

#1.Obtain your favourite looking armor pieces.
Craft, buy, farm the gear pieces that you like the look of (whether a monster shoulder or helm, a crafted level 4 bosmer style hood, or any dyeable set that is associated with a certain style category.)

#2.Create your perfect look.
Basically equip all the gear pieces that you want to create your characters perfect visual appearance while disrigarding the functionality (set abilities and stats) of said gear pieces.

#3.Press the save appearance button in the collections menue under appearance.

#4.Open the new sub catagory (My outfits) and find your new look saved in an open slot.

#5.Equip your costume!
Now your outfit works like all the other costumes. You can wear any gear set you like but the saved outfit when selected will override the appearance of your current gear like costumes do now. You can dye your outfit like costumes can now. You can wear hats with your outfits and so on...

Now you can venture in tamriel looking exactly how you want to look, without worrying about ruining your stats. :)

I didn't include weaons because they can't be dyed and would make things much harder.

Hope this inspired some thoughts.
Fair well, for now… :)

This has been proposed multiple times in the past, and the recurring rebuttal is that it would hurt crown store costume sales.
    Dalek-Rok - Argonian Sorcerer || Dalek-Shād - Argonian Nightblade || Dalek-Shul - Argonian Templar || Dalek-Xal - Argonian Dragonknight || Mounts-the-Snout - Argonian Warden || Dalek-Xul - Argonian Necromancer || Two-Spires - Argonian Arcanist || Dalek-Nesh - Argonian Sorcerer || Dalek-Kör - Argonian Dragonknight
Don't incorporate bugs into your builds, and you won't have [an] issue.

Yeah... been posted before, one way or another, numerous times.

Personally I would still prefer a proper transmogrification option for master crafters... add a pip to the crafting stations where those who spent skill points at this crafting-50 perk can reforge/resew/recarve existing items into a new style by spending resources and style materials, possibly even some rare special transmorph-stuff (about as hard to get as nirncrux or perfect roe... which then those with more money then patience could buy in the crown store, which would make the suits at ZOS happy I presume)

I kinda dislike many costume options due to the fact that they allow non-armor visuals in combat. Never liked it when people run around in dancers silks but enjoy the protection of full plate...
And I kinda wish the game would either unqeuip all "civilian attire" costumes when taking damage, or reduce the armor values of worn gear depending on the equipped costume - for example, each costume would have a "limit" to armor weight, if you wear "clothing" costumes you get no armor value whatsoever, if you were to have a "medium" leather armor costume, you'd get light and medium armor values, but heavy reduced to what the costume allows, etc.
    But that's me...

If that was the purpose why have they not made the new sets very ugly? Think monster sets.
Do not confuse incompetence and malice.
Now add that few costumes look like armor.

Transmorg would rather made crafted set of exotic styles way more relevant increasing their sale.
Grinding just make you go in circles.
Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.

Why I have proposed the idea in this way is to expand on the current system without an intire new system. True, a transmog system would be awesome, but it would require much more work to implement. But this way we are utilising an already existing system and upgrading it. This system also allows for ANY gear (regardless of level or style) to be used. A transmorg system would make the appearance of your gear equal to your corresponding level. Which limits user freedom and creativity. True there is already a style converter (imperial style and upcoming morag tong) but the transmorg system would require much more programming for the UI , all the functions and so on...

Also, your Idea about costumes is interesting and logical. But I feel that kind of removes the point of a costume. I mean a costume in video game terms refers to visual appearance. I understand what you're saying, that someone wearing a silk shirt intaking lots of damage supposed to stand no chance in comparison someone in full heavy armor. But this is a game in which many people like to role play. For example: Someone might want to play this awesome character that's so strong that he doesn't need a full set of heavy armor to defeat his opponent. Or play as a strong knight in heavy armor that utilizes magicka without crippling their stats.

Thanks to everyone contributing in this discussion with their opinion
