Thank you to all who tend to complain...

TL;DR: Reading all the complaints ahead of time makes the game so much better.

Okay, I know this seems anti-intuitive, but it makes sense. Hear me out.

If you are on console, or you simply don't play very often, I've figured out the key to ESO happiness. If you simply peruse the forums and read all of the vitriol spewed the first few days after a DLC or patch release, it makes the game more enjoyable once you get a chance to play. Console players get this perk automatically, since we have to wait longer for the release.

It's like hearing all of your friends talk about how absolutely horrible a movie is, thereby lowering your expectations to such a degree that you would be happy with nearly anything. Similarly, when you read all of the doom and gloom on the forums regarding a new release, your expectations are knocked down a few pegs and you are more likely to enjoy what is available.

(Anecdote Warning): I remember seeing the movie Three Wishes, starring Patrick Swayze. Normally a complete piece of trash. But I was struggling through the second half of a 13-hour flight from Los Angeles to Seoul, South Korea. I watched the *** out of that movie and liked it. Why? Because I just wanted any type of entertainment. I knew it would be bad by normal standards, but I needed something to distract me from the sheer boredom and terror of flying 13 hours sitting next to an ex-convict (that's another story).

It's all about your frame of mind, and if that means you gotta mentally trick yourself, then so be it.

Take it away, Carlin.

The best way to enjoy the game is to avoid the forums altogether. You won't even come across 99% of the things people complain about.

But if i didnt get to see other people complain, what would I complain about?

I can't appreciate those who complain simply because they can't achieve their goal within hours of attempting. These people are 100% of the reason why most modern games are literal garbage.

Yep sadly this is true in part.....noticed even sitting out of PTS overall provides this to me now on Xbox one

The part that isn't true....the new bugs and broken things that were in the game and not broken prior to the update

I'd like to think these people only exist in the forums. Then I log into the game, read Zone Chat in any zone, or queue for a dungeon PUG. I'm reminded every day that they are the majority.

How can something get better if no-one complains about it? Remember cyrodil lag? It is much better now, remember 20 sec shield stacking sorc? It is much harder to do that now. Remember you could not decon if you had 0 inventory space but an eso plus? You can do it now, and all thanks to feedback we give...

Feedback =/= Complaints. People need to stop acting like these two words have the same definition. People also need to stop acting like all voices deserve to be heard, no matter how much sensatinalist verbiage they use.

I'm a long time gamer, I like to give praise for good games and critic on bad ones.
Critic so they can improve, if not then give it up. The critic also refreshes your thoughts and gaming experiences.
I put reviews on metacritic as well, nice place to write and voice your game reviews.
If mostly you hear on this forum nowadays is negative, then there's definitely something wrong that they need to fix or die.
If mostly are praises, you know they are doing something right.

There's truth to what you say.

I once got dragged along by my girlfriend at the time to this terrible-and-stupid-sounding teen horror comedy movie. It was called, if you can believe it, "Buffy the Vampire Slayer." My girlfriend was so excited, I went along to make her happy.

She hated it. I loved it so much I that watched the series from day 1.

Just goes to show the amazing power of low expectations.

That's exactly how I see it as well. After a patch is released I see all the threads about newly introduced problems, poorer performance than before the patch, or bugs mentioned on the first day on PTS that still made it to the live environment.

When I then get all that on the Xbox besides not being able to stay online for more than 5 minutes and a below-par-cinematic 20 fps I'm always like "Yes! That's exactly what I wanted!"
