Disappointed I can't really share a home with my wife

mjsmith198808_ESO
I bought the home and of course she can move items around but not place her own. Maybe they should make it so that if we both wear our rings of mara we can both make it our primary residence or something, I dunno. It's just kinda frustrating that we have to have different homes when we were looking forward to decorating together

They can't keep players VISIBLE while running around trying to kill each other in Cyrodiil.

What you're suggesting (even given the ridiculously simple and disappointing version of housing they gave us [I say us loosely as I uninstalled today- just getting all the bitching out of my system on the way out the door]) is WAY beyond their abilities. :p

    Very good point!

I have a similar situation where I will be setting up a Guildhall for my guild. Yet I will be the only one able to add or remove stuff. Meaning I can't spread the work amongst Guild officers to do it for me when I don't have so much time to go online.
Why not ZOS? I can give anyone in the guild all the same priveleges as the Guildmaster, but I can not do the same for anyone in my house. I don't see the logic.

Wait, she can't decorate your home? Well, there goes me and my wife's reason for wanting to buy a nice shared home.
  • mjsmith198808_ESO
Yea it would be a huge pain in the butt to decorate a big guildhall by yourself

Totally agree. Me and mf gf were looking forward to decorating together, but they have made it a right PITA to do. As a 'decorator' you can't even look at the items in the housing Crown Store, so you can't even decide together which table would look better before buying it, etc.

It also means we can't pool our crowns, so have the choice of having less furniture, or the owner buying even more of them.

    Yes you can.

CS > Furniture > Bedroom Sets ( eg ), mouse over the bedroom set, press Preview (default: R).
A list of the objects in the pack is shown, click an object to preview it.

There's an entire separate window for the Housing Editor. Some of the things are the same, and others are not.

It's kind of annoying that the Achievement Furnishings are BoP; I mean I get it, because if not they'd be tradable which would defeat the purpose. But, if I was allowed to place the furniture myself in the "Guild Hall" it wouldn't be an issue.

We're having a hell of a time coordinating building a Guild Hall. Right now we're just sending everything to one person and he's dumping it into one area of the house for others to move. It's a PITA.

Perhaps if both parties buy the home on their accounts then you could merge them into one? Then both would be able to add and decorate. Then if something happens you split and each keep what was yours to begin with? Is that something that could be possible @ZOS_JessicaFolsom ?

It could get expensive for sure depending on the house.

@Mwnci As Vidahr said above, when you own a house, there is a seperate Crown Store interface for individual furnishings that you can purchase with crowns. Prices range from 20 Crowns up to 1000s of crowns for Crafting tables. There are literally hundreds of items to choose from.

My girlfriend and I were also looking to share a house. Would be great if the "other players may not add or remove housing items from your home regardless of their access settings" restriction could be reconsidered.

You just popped my dream for today. Guess my wife and me will be living in the open air again.

I don't get it why they can't get it right. Housing is nothing new in mmo's. SWG had (imho) the best housing system where everybody and their dogs could decorate, remove and place objects given the right privileges. Vanguard did it right, except a limited amount of housing lots and same goes for ArcheAge. EQ2 did it right. BDO did it right. And even a crap game like Shroud of the Avatar does it right. No, SWTOR didn't do it right. Housing sucked in that game with their stupid tile system.

Why can't ESO have it right on release. Maybe in the near future. They have a robust housing system now. Only things they need to change for certain:

    - place objects for any member given the priviliges
    - STORAGE chests which can be craft6ed(perhaps limited storage chests to 1 per small house, 2 per medium and 3 per mansion)
    - *add your ideas to the list*

Blending the disciplines of the stealthy agent and subtle wizard, I move unseen and undetected, foil locks and traps, and teleport to safety when threatened, or strike like a viper from ambush. The College of Illusion hides me and fuddles or pacifies my opponents. The College of Mysticism detects my object, reflects and dispels enemy spells, and makes good my escape. The key to a nightblade's success is avoidance, by spell or by stealth; with these skills, all things are possible."

Only if you own the home. If you are a visitor with decorator privileges, you do not have the ability to see this menu. All you have is the ability to pick up and move items already placed by the owner.

FWIW, I'm very sorry you are disappointed. This is exactly what I was trying to avoid with my threads on the limitations of Homestead. Managing people's expectations so they wouldn't be disappointed after the fact.

This very subject was covered in that thread.
I hope they fix this down the road so you can share items and more freely decorate them.

New access level, co-owner equal owner as in: can add and remove furniture and also change the house access for anybody than owner. Can not kick owner but everything else.
Might have an access level who let you add or move furniture but not remove?

Add guild ownership, here the guild own the house and access level can be set to guild ranks much the same way as the guild bank who also has the add but not remove feature.

I'm new to ESO and enjoying it so far but, have encountered the same issue or should I say, I have the same question / suggestion.

Shared or Co-Ownership.. My wife and I play together and purchased a home right after launch, I like it so far but feel it would be more enjoyable if they would allow the owner to assign a role to another player (similar to how they can assign the "Designer" role) that would give them rights to place and take items in addition to the move and edit rights; Or even better, allow the owner to assign a "Co Owner" role to the other user so that they can set the home as their primary residence as well.

    Just a suggestion.

My husband and I have been wondering about this. We are going to test with the free room from the quest. Make sure we own the same room, then we both give permissions to each other. I am wondering how this will work. If we can both decorate, or if one owner will override the other, if that makes sense. I am hoping this will work so we can both decorate and feel like we both live in the same house.

My husband and I are also very disappointed we can't share the home, and both places items. Can not even imagine having a guild hall and one person has to place everything?! It's only one person's account that can place assistants?! Very short sighted restrictive functionality that undercuts the whole MMO genre. Also sadly disappointed so many of the conservatory items are for crowns. Too much of a money grab. I can see 1 or 2 really nice items for crowns, but the sheer number that aren't available unless you pay $$ is very off putting. We already pay monthly. We are casual ESO+ members who log on daily and do quests, farm, sometimes trials or pledges. Bummed we farmed for weeks in anticipation of this release. It's suddenly a job to log on and do writs on every single character now to have a crazy slim chance to get a master writ which then offers far too little reward. What's the point of having a master writ that awards 2?! I'll give it one more month to see if they can improve things, but otherwise we are out.

What happens if you and the wife/girlfriend split? Do we need a GM in game playing as family court divorce judge and splitting up the furniture and heirlooms? Should they make you pay her gold alimony since you get the house?

Women shouldn't move heavy stuff. Zos should only make it possible for your wife to move small things like paintings, flowers, food etc. Why would your wife go out in the garden and move statues, it doesn't make sense.
