Crown item idea: ring of eternal fraternity

The Ring of Eternal Fraternity. Like the ring of Mara, this is performed between two characters...maybe over some ale. Thereafter, the two accounts can swap bound items. But an account can only have one ring active with one other account at any time. Items that are sent between two accounts are locked out of ever being sent to a third.

The idea here is that after two years of playing my friend and I have a lot of retired armor and gear. And we like playing different content. If I could loan my friend my Hunt Leader set and he could loan me a maelstrom bow...that'd be cool.

Also...there are so many players who play with a friend...I think this would be a good money maker.

I can see a lot of issues with trails guilds or better PvE players using this to push items others can't access.

WTS Maelstrom Weapons: You buy rings.

I considered this. I figure ZOS knows more about preventing this sort of exploit than I do. Hmm...but let's brainstorm. Let's assume a crown price of 5000. Random number...but it's what assistants cost, so let's use that.

If you allow one ring active on an account, then to activate another you have to destroy the first, this would probably prevent most exploits. Why spend $50 to transfer items just one time? The one ring rule is also important because A.) the hobbit, duh, and B.) if players had multiple rings then guilds would just establish networks of rings to trade stuff. So for sure you can only have one ring active.

But you'd still have the jerk that farms a pile, charges someone a fortune via PayPal, sets up the ring, transfers items, then destroys the ring to move on to the next. Yeah...I'm sure there are people out there who would spend 5,000 crowns on the ring then send the exploiter like $500 real world dollars. So to prevent this...what sort of safe guards? Maybe you can only activate one ring ever per account? One per year? I think they could demotivate scammers with an appropriate system.

And they'd have to consider how big a problem this would be anyway. A lot of powerful gear is bind on equip. If people weren't running scams for agility jewelry last year or briar heart weapons, I'm not sure how much more of a problem monster masks, trial equipment, etc poses.

I think you severely underestimate this community and the MMO community at large.

You're aware of the things you can buy via RMT and their costs right? Super Capital ships in EVE Online is always an interesting one to see.

The time investment required to get perfect gear in this game is very big, there are plenty out there who would be willing to spend $50 to get a perfect weapon and get into wrecking in PvX with it. If there are short cuts to be taken with money, there will be those who take them, and those who exploit those willing to.

Sure...but I guess I'm less worried about a maelstrom bow in the hands of someone incapable of earning one than someone who can, lol.

The idea is all about trade offs. You're opening the game to some exploits, maybe. But I think they could be mitigated. In exchange, they could allow players to pay a little to enhance their game experience, avoid some grinding, and open more options.
