Us scrub Templars do get it in the neck a lot

After duelling a lvl 44 NB on my lvl 14 Templar, I was called a healing noob (and a host of other inane interweb words) after I eventually prevailed and I must admit, the guy was correct. I can't deny I BoL'd my way to victory and I make no bones about it. BoL ftw I say. I was also supposedly not allowed to use that spear shard that sends the other player flying onto it's ass.

Is there some sort of duelling etiquette I'm overlooking? Is having one bar not enough of a handicap without wanting us scrub Templars having to forfeit one or two of our most useful skills? He had no issues disappearing into a small ball of smoke for large segments of the fight and ganking my poor noob Templar repeatedly from behind.

Ok, you've got me, there is always two sides to a story, I admit. I did sucker him in, standing around with that free vanity pet that all newcomers use and that phaer guard outfit you get from a quest just further up the road in Auridon. Hidden underneath that was 5 purple pieces of seducer, 3 Magnus and 3 blue Elegant jewellery pieces I had just farmed from the dolmen up the road. As for hidden CP levels, I'm around the 430ish mark and he claimed to be around the 400 mark, so all was fair in love and war on that front.

Dueling = ppl standing around arguing about whose stick is bigger

Don't worry about it, it only matters in context to you and them. No gameplay value exists for content so it's all good

    Seriously....don't worry about it

There is no dueling etiquette. You fight to win. Period. Use any means at your disposal. If someone wants rules before fighting then that is just their way of trying to get around their own inadequacies.

If you win you are a cheater scrub with a cancer build.
If you lose you need to l2p n00b.
If you decline to duel he could wipe the floor with you, you coward.

So take your pick and leave it at that. :D

You used a class skill and as you say BoL'd you way to victory, the proper etiquette would of been to Tbag your foe after the duel.

I must also admit, I've found Templar to be very powerful early on, especially when duelling. Not that the content is difficult, but the difference is night and day early on. I feel like I'm using one of my mains. I remember having to use a lacklustre bow and 2-hander on my DK just to get things done a little quicker and I found my NB slow going in the beginning to.

Dark flare disintegrates everything easily early doors too. Loving it at the moment. Not really spent much time on my sorc, so no idea how that class measures up.

    after I eventually prevailed and

I have said it before and I will say it again, why does anyone worry about what anyone else says when they lose a duel?

I'm merely stating us scrubs do have a tough time of it too. We have to put up with a lot of abuse. A lot of people on here think we just tag along with them for an easy life and to waste valuable minutes of their life explaining stuff to us. I'm not quite there yet, but with each passing day I'm growing a thicker skin.

It isn't just in dueling, it is also in regular PvP. From all the hate tells I have gotten over the past 2 years, I have come to the conclusion that there are indeed unwritten rules.

    1) If you kill someone you are a noob.

    2) If you use skills that they were not prepared in advance for, then you are a noob.

    3) If your ultimate was already built up before you started the fight and you use it, you are a noob.

    4) If your ultimate was not built up before you started to fight and you use it, you are a noob.

    5) If they kill you fast, you are a noob.

    6) If they are killed too fast, you are an exploiter/cheater and a noob.

    7) If you die but the battle lasted long enough you are a heavy armor noob. This still applies if you are in full light armor.

    8) If any other condition happens that was not explained then you are a noob.

    9) You only become pro once you start pming hate tells to the people who killed you.

I've duelled many people and beaten a lot of higher levelled players and almost all of them have been fine. Not boasting because I've been handed my ass more times than I care to remember too. Just seems people don't like to get beaten by Templars, especially low level Templars. We're entitled to win some too. :(

I've found most people I've duelled don't understand dark flare has a long wind up and can be avoided. As soon as you hit them with 2 or 3 of those things, you know they've got more pressing issues than me spamming BoL or that flying spear/javelin. I've not even got Jesus Beam yet. I can only assume that's when the real abuse will happen.

for all you folks whom get in to fights with random strangers - why?

not trying to be clever or trollsome - for whatever reason, I just don't get the appeal of dueling...

it's easy to get burnt out on different aspects of the game - so, at some point I might...

just wondering - what's the atttaction/appeal/payoff for dueling?

Hit the nail on the head with your own description. Burn out on the main quest and PvE in general. Been playing this game since console release and only recently ventured into Cyrodiil myself. I used to hate PvP and was never fussed with duelling at the beginning too. Now, it's something different and surprisingly fun. Cyrodiil is like a whole new landmass to me as I only ever ventured there to get into IC.

Lol. These threads are great. Some guy wins a duel and others complain that he used certain skills.

Sore losers are called that for a reason. With dueling they'll come up with any reason they lost other than they got bested.

Interesting, I thought the purpose of dueling was to win.

Noob's first mistake was dueling in the first place.

Want to do something impressive in PVP? Take Cyrodil. Make it the color of you alliance. Not 1v1 PVP, not farming on a bridge. Take Cyrodil. That's winning in PVP.

Its also too hardcore for most. Requires leadership, charisma, and coordination alongside personal skill and gear. Personal skill and gear on their own mean nothing without application. Which duels are not.

    @Prof_Bawbag ...thanks for explaining :)

I imagine sooner or later I'll give it a serious try...

it's funny, I'm on the other end of the spectrum, spent tons of time in cyrodiil and I'm now just discovering dungeons...

I'm actually excited to do a couple of more tonight...

I guess I'll truly know when I've hit end game when i start spending time in my house decorating...figure that might actually be the beginning of the end of the game for me...

nailed it. for some reason NB s think theyre the underdog class- when they have always had every advantage in combat given to them.

i had a NB call me out = "wait til next patch fotm meta ***"

after i roll dodged , healed, streaked his ganking arse- with my fotm meta bithc arse....... and proceeded to spank him good. he seemed upset it wasn't easy... irony is- HE was prob wearing the viper , veli, proc sets that will be nerfed-...

I main a NB and even I get tired of the NB whining. Yeah, I'm squishy, yeah I don't have the same kind of self-sustain as other characters but I play the game. Glass cannon forever. :)
