Magicka Nightblade vs Magicka Templar

Hi there ESO community!

I'm willing to create a new character, which will be a magicka dps/healer one. In my entire gameplay life I'm playing as Sorcerer (both magicka and stamina, dps/healer/tank), but I want to try a new class, and I'm thinking about nightblade or templar (sorry, not interested in Dragon Knight). However, I can't decide, so... thoughts? Please, help me, community. <3 please share your experiences, pros and cons for those two classes and gameplay, so I can make a decision!

    Templars make for a more well-rounded healer / group support character but nightblades are much more flexible overall, particularly in solo situations.

    Templars tend to be more melee / stand your ground fighters whereas nightblades are highly mobile and good at range.

    If you're used to magicka sorc then mageblade will likely be a more familiar playstyle.

    make a templar
    youll enjoy the dps/heal as you progress and if you want to go endgame you can easily spec full dps or full heals
    if you do nb you will not be able to go endgame as the game is right now

    endgame = hardcore trials and leaderboards

    Magicka Templar pros;
    -One of the strongest DPS in end game performance. Easy rotation with multiple playstyle routes. If you like aggressive play you can use Sweeps, and if you prefer ranged you can go Dark Flare.
    -Amazing group utility as they are the only class to boast on demand group stamina return (Shards + Repentance) and purging (Purifying Ritual)
    -Undeniably the best healers in the game due to amazing skills and ease of access to potent stats such as Major Mending.

    Magicka Templar cons;
    -Harder solo performance due to lack of strong resource management as a DPS. Main source of healing is a melee spammable (Sweeps) that forces you to learn fights the hard way. Prepare to have a lot of skill growth to make use of the class.

    Magicka Nightblade pros;
    -Very easy to use and versatile. They truly shine in solo performance due to the sheer number of self buffs they have.
    -Easiest resource management in the game due to Siphoning Attacks.
    -Great self healing on spammable and other skills.
    -Good support for the "50/50" application, half damage and half healing.

    Magicka Nightblade cons;
    -Full healer route the Nightblade brings almost nothing to the table. You'll pretty much be a walking Resto staff at that point. Most of your class healing comes in the form of damage, meaning you'll have to DPS to heal.
    -Worst DPS performance out of all the Magicka classes in the game in end game.
    -Has one of the most convoluted rotations for DPS due to absurd micromanagement, with little to no reward.

    disagree with the first half of your first statement. Magicka nbs are the hardest class to use and requires a high skill cap and this is based on your last statement.

    Agree with your second statement. Yet, fire staff is getting a boost next update. However, this is not unique to nbs so your second statement still stands correct.

    They're hard to pull good DPS with because micromanagement (which I stated they have an issue with), but why put all of the extra effort into pulling sub tier DPS to begin with?

    They are no means the hardest class to use though. They're extremely easy to get a baseline performance with to clear most content that the majority of the player base participates in.

    +1

    Mag NB is easy to get clears of content on, but its a much slower process than say, getting clears on a magplar. However, there's still only so much juice you can squeeze out of it.

    For PVP I'd take mageblade though, they're arguably weaker overall, but they're much more versatile. With but a switch of gear you can go from tanking to ganking to bombing to 1vX

    Thanks for your tips! I think I'll be going to play as magicka templar (even tho I really love the darkness-oriented NB skills). Any advice on gear? I intend to run full Light Kagrenac's Hope, a full dropped magicka set, maybe Rattlecage for permanent Major Sorcery (3 jewels, 2 heavy parts), no monster helm set (shoulder or head only, due to having a staff equipped).

    Lol, you must be kidding.

    Only magicka sorcs beats magicka templar in solo performance..

    High level healing plus AoE is the answer for solo performance.
