I was interested to see what other people think of the change to this buff.
Pros:
I can see this change as helping Magicka Tanks quite a lot in giving them a good source of Magicka when only doing minimal (non-elemental) damage and having low resource pools, and this is a positive thing.
I'm also pleased that the buff is no longer tied to elemental damage, which really helps a lot of magic builds that don't use elemental damage, and especially the Templar morph to hit everything is something that will have me respec for it on my DPS Templar.
Cons:
One major advantage to the old Eledrain is that it scaled off the players max magicka. As a Firemage, it was a must have skill that I would run myself if the healer wasn't running it. It allowed me to sustain on what is a very hard class to sustain on. On live, my firemage with 40.5k Max Magicka will get about 535 Magicka every second with Eledrain. Keep in mind this is without Warhorn buffing my max stats, which also buffs the amount I get back through eledrain too. Essentially, I have lost about 135 Magicka per second, or 270 Magicka Recovery with this new Minor Magickasteal and it is noticeably bad. I would always run out of resources on the test dummy in the first 50%.
The loss gets worse the more max magicka you have, and how much you rely on eledrain. Eg. Necropotence Sorcs with 50k+ Max Magicka and little to no regen will really be hurting with this change.
Conclusion:
I see this as being part of the lowering of the top dps we can pull, as we'll have to spec some more recovery now, which is fine, I would like to see maybe a middle ground being met, maybe increasing the buff slightly to easy pain on firemages, or adding some kind of magicka scaling that starts from 31k Max Magicka, as thats the point where the Live and PTS match in Eledrain and Minor Magickasteal.
