@PTS Patch Notes: Frost Staff Taunt is its own worst enemy for numerous reasons

People have already discussed how the taunt can get people killed. Most people will be smart enough to know to avoid the heavy attack if you aren't a tank.

But why should someone using a frost staff be penalized for wanting to use a heavy attack?

I appreciate the change for what it tries to achieve in creating more tanking diversity. But a consequence of its implementation is that it takes away variety and builds from others. A lot of pet sorcs, magblades, and even some magplars run ice staves.

The taunt should not be a passive. It should be a morph inside the destruction skill line to eliminate the dozens of side effects of the changes. Because then at least the changes are optional per the player.

Almost nobody that knows what they are doing in PVE runs an ice staff. Pugs are a totally different story. They DPS with everything from icestaffs to sword and boards. You know there will be people raging the first time a pug heavy attacks a boss and gets one shot. It will be either the tank or healers "fault" of course... Haha

I don't think it does it automatically, on with the Tri Focus perk? So, theoretically, one should read what a passive does before investing points in it. Realistically, yes, I know how people work, and I don't have high expectations of such literacy.

But I'm actually somewhat excited for this change. ESO has always maintained that you could play how you'd like. While that is far from actually true, more versatility is always nice. I've been highly interested in trying out a magicka tank build on my sorc. This will make it so much more effective.

There are not many reasons to use ice staves, but there is a group of people (me included) that use it for no reason other than "I wanted to do something different from my other many magicka characters". Turns out it is fun, and I was told it is especially fun on PvP (didn't take my Cryomancer to Cyrodiil yet).

It is not for endgame, though. It is really literally just for fun.
Just so that everyone knows, my Altmer still can't have black hair. About a dozen of Altmer NPCs in the game have black hair. Just saying.

    Meet my characters:
    Command: Do the thing.

Zadarri, Khajiit Fist of Thalmor: The thing was done, as commanded.
Durza gra-Maghul, Orc blacksmith: The thing was done perfectly, in the most efficient way.
Tegwen, Bosmer troublemaker: You can't prove I didn't do the thing.
Sings-Many-Songs, Argonian fisher: Sure, I'll do the thing... Eventually. Maybe.
Aerindel, Altmer stormcaller: After extensive research, I've come to the conclusion that doing the thing would be a waste of resources.
Liliel, Dunmer pyromancer: Aerindel said I shouldn't do the thing. Something about "resources".
Gyda Snowcaller, Nord cryomancer: I will find a way to do it that won't waste resources and make Aerindel proud of me.
Beatrice Leoriane, Breton vampire: I persuaded someone else into doing the thing. You are welcome, dear.
Sahima, Redguard performer: Doing the thing sounds awfully unpleasant and really not my problem.
Ellaria Valerius, Imperial priestess: I'll pray to the Eight for the thing to be done, if it is Their will.

Or those like me that have bad luck with RNG, and only got that one Sharpened Ice Staff from the Aether set or from the Arenas...

It will mean a gear change for some people who already have an ice staff build, but that's a small cost for a whole new play style.

My favourite dungeon healer has an ice staff on the back bar (mainly because it was the cheapest, but also because the snares had some group utiltiy). That was gold roisins wasted because I definitely don't want to be taunting mobs.

I do want to see what mag tanking looks like though.
#1 tip (Re)check your graphics settings periodically - especially resolution.

Will the ice staff proc tremorscale? That might some long range pvp cheese right there.
