Couple of thieving questions.

Hi guys. Very noob, love being a thief and just have a couple of quick questions if someone wants to help me out.

I'm trying to pickpocket by sneaking behind NPCs but instead of a pickpocket prompt there is only the talk to prompt. Can you just not pickpocket NPCs you can talk to, or must I do something first before I'm able to pickpocket?

I'm level 5 on Khenarthi's Roost. There's no outlaws refuge here. Is there a way I can stash my booty so if I get pinched by the fuzz I don't lose it all?

Thanks everyone.

Some NPCs cannot be pickpocketed or murdered. It's a general protection to keep someone from waxing quest critical NPCs and merchants. This also usually extends to theater NPCs (like the bards, or the group of sailors talking about how they were thrown out of the bar.) If you're on Khenarthi's Roost, you're going to see a lot of these characters.

If you have nameplates turned on, pickpocketable NPCs will show up with yellow names, while non-killable ones will have green names.

There are passives in the Legerdemain skill line that make it easier to pickpocket people, but the ability is unlocked from the start.

There's no way to protect loot when you're on Khenarthi's Roost. Your only option is going to a wayshrine, porting to Gelnumbra, Auridon, or Stonefalls, and fencing or laundering your stuff there. If you have alternate characters who finished the Thieves Guild questline (which you don't), there's also an assistant who well fence your goods, but take a cut of your profits. She's generally worthless, but if you really don't want to leave Khenarthi's Roost for RP reasons, you could sell your loot to her.

Some NPCs, such as quest givers might not be pickpocketed, afaik.
I would advise you to get to Auridon and sell your ill gotten possessions. No need to risk.

If you have the option on for being able to attack innocent/friendly targets, then you'll see NPC's and mobs with a white outlining (just as hostile mobs/npc's have a red outlining). These are the NPC's you can pickpocket.

As for the stashing problem, if you can't bank it, and you can't expand your bag space, I recommend finishing up Khenarthi's Roost and moving on. Finish the main quest there, leave everything else for later, and find the outlaws refuge in the next area.

Not sure where they are, but I'm pretty sure there's at least one, maybe two, bag vendors on Khenarthi's Roost. I remember where the ones on Stros M'kai, Bleakrock, and Bal Foyen are. Can't remember where Betnikh's is, though.

    EDIT: It's Shikruz in Mistral.

I went and took a screenshot.
