Complete dissatisfaction over Crown Crates

I don't visit these forums often, but I imagine there are thousands of threads already complaining about crown crates, so I'll keep it short.

I've spent nearly 20,000 crowns on these crates. I haven't received a single new item since the first day these were released on ps4. I'm currently sitting at 388 gems, still not enough to buy a single atronach mount.

I think the math speaks for itself. There is something VERY VERY CROOKED going on with these things, and my once respectful opinion of zos has been deeply tarnished.

Sounds like a personal issue, maybe one regarding self control. Don't buy random rng crates if you're targeting a specific item.

You can first start by not participating in the crown crates. You'll just telling ZOS through the transactions that what they released is good. Fight the urge not to buy crown crates.

I'm not trolling but I don't feel bad for you. You targeted a specific thing in an rng based game. That's your fault, no one is to blame because you didn't get what you wanted when you wanted. You could have stopped at any point. Willpower.

You're completely missing the point to just try and put me down, which I knew was going to happen. DO THE MATH. Gems take the rng out of the equation.

OP, how many of the crown store items did you have when you started opening crates?

It's typically easier for people to accrue gems if they already own some of the items or get a lot of repeats.

What items did you get from the crate? Good items are very subjective.

I really wanted the black-maned lion, red wolf mount, and the eye makeup. I really didn't want an atro mount, even though it was the 'best prize'. I ended up getting a wolf atro and using 160 gems to buy the red wolf mount and eye makeup thing. For somebody else, the might have been happy with just an atro and pocketed the rest of the gems.

The point of this? Maybe what you got would have been exactly what somebody else wanted.

At the end of the day RNG can be on your side or not. Youtuber Deltia opened $100 in crates and did not get an apex mount. I know people who got it on their first crate.

If you let us know a bit more about what you got, we can probably agree/disagree that your RNG sucked or was good. At the end of the day that would be relatively.

But yes, there's something inherently awful about the crates.

The first time I ever went to Vegas, I looked around at all the employees, all the lights, all the architecture and I knew beyond a doubt that gambling (loot boxes) are in the houses favor. I have never lost a single dime to gambling.

Oh, I see the problem here. The OP thought for some reason that the gems were a fail safe to ensure the buyer would be able to get any prize if they bought enough crates. It does not work that way. Sorry for your bad luck.

Well, yes, they do. If you buy enough crates. Estimates have been for $300+ dollars worth of crowns. You get about 3 gems trade-in value for each crate. You need 400 gems to buy the apex atronach mount. You mentioned math....

20000 seems like an awful lot of crowns to not have hit 400 gems with... Are you keeping everything and only getting the gems off of the doubles, or are you also turning in the consumables for gems value and still not at the 400 needed for a mount?

I have a fundamental problem with ZOS not publishing the odds. The problem I have is it makes me wonder if they can change them. And if they can change them, then why wouldn't they? Make the first few days or weeks give high payouts, then throw lower odds once you have people convinced they will get what they want. I mean if everyone else got what they wanted in 1-2 packs a week ago and you are trying now and on your third pack, you must be close so you can't stop now... You are too close, it will all be for nothing if you do. It really is bottom feeding, even if the purchaser thinks it is fine.

A ) i know how gems work and in fact you are the one who does not, and
B ) i know how maths works and in fact maybe you don't

Intelligent discussion regarding crates goes like this:
A ) Don't buy them, and
B ) If you do buy them expect the worse case scenario and expect to pay far more than the items worth to get what you want

The minimum amount of gems a crate gives you is 3. Since there's duplicates, significantly more over time. However, you only get a guaranteed atro mount (400 gems) by opening 134 crates, considering you never get a duplicate.

A realistic crate number for an atro mount is 60 - 80 to get 400 gems. However, there is never a guarantee. The guarantee is at 134 crates. You knew it when you started gambling. It's not ZOS's fault.

I wanted the special makeup. I calculated the amount of crates I would need for a guarantee to get it and it was worth it for me. Not only was the item I wanted guaranteed, but I also got other awesome items on the side. That's how you use crown crates responsibly. I will never go for the atro mounts unless they're worth 300+ € to me. Which they are not.

When you go to a gas station and decide to buy 50 dollars worth of lottery tickets, and you only win like 2 free tickets and no money, and you basically wasted 50 dollars, do you hate the gas station? A reasonable person would have a disdain for the lottery and not the gas station itself. Try to see Zos like this. It makes the bitter pill of bad decision go down a little easier.

This discussion has happened a thousand times, I think everyone's a bit pointed since we've kind of reached this conclusion a while ago

Yes, the crates are genuinely dishonest, are giant neon lights tob eople with poor impulse control, and can be classified as aggressive to predatory marketing depending on the strength of verbiage you want to use.

Given ZOS reactions to PTS and live launch I feel fairly confidnet without any new legislation requiring release of information such as actual odds or projected cost or better yet actual cost that ZOS will continue to simply ignore those consumers who post complaints or want to be educated and continue to crank out crown crates every quarter.

Also to the OP, I wouldn't hold onto the crown gems for the next season if they continue to ooze their way around aggressive marketing practices one of the next shady scams is to replace the gem currency in each iteration of the crates with no carry over.
