Dunmer DK tank: Is vampirism worth the benefits?

My main tank has, as long as I can remember, been a vampire. Now, I'm questioning whether it's worth it to be a vampire. The 10% magic and stamina regeneration from the Vampire passive "Supernatural Recovery" is good... but the heavy armor passive "Constitution" plus a DK's "Battle Roar" pretty much gives me plenty of resources.

The Vampire passive "Undeath" says that it reduces the damage dealt to me when I fall below 50% health (eventually up to 33%)... but it doesn't really specify the increments.

I know that being a Dunmer helps negate some of the fire vulnerability, too.

So- is it beneficial to be a vampire as a Dunmer DK? Or is the fire vulnerability, slower health regeneration, and fighter's guild vulnerability not worth the affliction?

Undeath and 10% magicka and stam regen easily make up for the downfalls IMO. I can't imagine playing magicka DK anything without vamp, at least in PvP.

The extra damage that come from other players running Fighter's Guild abilities doesn't impair you, either?

Short answer: Yes its worth it.

Longer Answer: A tank will almost never feel that extra damage and the bonus of Undeath and the 10% regen is amazing and it will make a big difference, there is no reason for any type of tank not to be a vampire. The pros highly outweigh the cons. You don't even have to be a dunmer for it to be worth it. Thou I myself am one but that is cause I love the Dunmers, nothing to do with stats for me on that choice :P

No. It's ugly af and that's a major game-changer. I can't tank if I don't look good while doing it.

I've never needed vampirism and I tank phenomenally. It will not make or break a talented player. I agree sometimes looking good is worth forgoing some minor boons.

Vampirism does have merit it just is not for me.

I main a mag DK tank.
Used to be Altmer, now he is a Dunmer.

    Always a vampire.
Never had any trouble because of it.
In fact, the Undeath passive often saved me from certain death.

    Go for it.
If you don't care about the looks.
I don't, I have my Spiderkith skin over it

There is no question you can be a great tank without it but there is really no down side to it other then the looks but like I told the other if you have the Dro-m'Athra skin then problem solved. I mean for me it was either using the skin and get over 100 more magicka regen or not use it cause of its look and not have that 100 magicka regen, and of course the undeath passive. It was a difference between 1522 mag regen vs 1401 mag regen. Worth it.

Yes, OP. Most of my tanks have been vamps at one point or another. Even places like vCoA don't really matter when the attacks incoming aren't doing much to you to begin with. Sure if you suddenly get focused by fire spewing Daedric hordes you're interested trouble, but you also were before and you didn't have a 33% damage mitigation bonus before, either.

As long as you tank and spend CP decently then it is not that noticeable.

If you end up not liking it you can always cure your character.

Thanks everyone for the replies. Protip for those of you who are concerned about your character's physical appearance when afflicted with vampirism:

If you slot a "disguise"- it will hide your vampire features. Not a costume. A disguise. These are obtained from doing in-game quests. They'll allow you to see how your character would normally look... even in Stage 4 Vampirism.

My wife always has an issue with her characters looking gross- so she would usually just toss on the Servant's Disguise from an Aldmeri Dominion quest. Badda-Bing!

Vampirism is amazing for tanking. Undeath passive is incredible, invigorating drain is the best skill a tank can have.

I thought being a vamp was almost required for end game tanking.

I don't think there's a class right now that depends on mist form more than MagDK.

Not sure why you are laughing, while I wouldn't say its the best skill its up there. Its really great during Trial boss fights that give you windows where you can use it. First boss of Maw and the Twins comes to mind, and even Rakkath if you know when to use it. First and 2nd boss of Hel Ra too and the 3 first bosses of Aetherian Archives. The fact that you can gain 15 ultimate over just 3 sec is amazing, combine that with the Minor Heroism, the base ultimate generation and a possible Decisive weapon and you are looking at quite a lot of ultimate there. Not to forget Dungeons where most attacks don't have to be blocked and using it would be a great boon for the team. So in short, as long as you know when to block this ability is great to have.

Imo every char you make should be a vampire. The regen and undeath passive far outweigh a little bit of fire damage and *gulps* health regen loss.
