China to force online games with loot boxes publicly announce item drop rate

China has just passed regulations on online games, in which there are specific parts on games with loot boxes.

The regulation (in Chinese) http://www.mcprc.gov.cn/whzx/bnsjdt/...05_464422.html

Translation regarding loot boxes:

2.6 ...Online game publishers shall promptly publicly announce information about the name, property, content, quantity, and draw/forge probability of all virtual items and services that can be drawn/forge on the official website or a dedicated draw probability webpage of the game. The information on draw probability shall be true and effective.

2.7 Online game publishers shall publicly announce the random draw results by customers on notable places of official website or in game, and keep record for government inquiry. The record must be kept for more than 90 days. When publishing the random draw results, some measures should be taken place to protect user privacy.

Games with loot boxes can just stop any IP from China from logging into their game. China does not dictate the rules to the world.

I'm not sure about looking to a police state as an example.

ZOS is not located in China, nor do they have a partner in China for publishing ESO. As was stated on the 10 other threads about this topic, the law simply does not apply to ESO.

I like the rule, at least the small part and implication from the excerpt:

Basically any game that relies on RNG and profits the longer a person plays, has to post the drop rates publicly.

I think that any legit and non-biased loot table would not have any issues. Any company that is loading the table and making it more complicated then what is fair, should be exposed. This way as a player, i can make an informed decision and take my money elsewhere.

Hopefully, this will force the game companies to stop using rng as their magic answer for everything.

It's more the irony that a government like that has consumer interests more in mind than other nations.

One would hope similar legislation could be passed here. Since well companies won't just be honest with their customers.

We are closing this thread as a discussion of real world government/politics. If you would like to discuss this more in relationship to the subject of ESO we would suggest a topic like this one where the discussion has already been mentioned: https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/306223/
