Gear Advice

I have reached cp220, have 5 pieces of Twice-Born Star. and am a Nightblade Magicka build.

I'm wondering what sets I should be trying to farm now. I have some Mothers sorrow, a Julianos set "I am a cloth crafter" and a couple of Aether. I need to know what would complement the TBS set the best, until I can get more CP points and farm something better.

It has cost me tons of gold re specing, trying to see what works best in my situation, and hope someone here can point me in a more painless direction.

Most of the builds I've read online refer to a specific setup or are quite old. I am wearing 5 pieces of TBS, 5 of mothers sorrow now, but feel weak.

A really generic mageblade DPS setup is 3x Infal or moondancer (jewelry, Willpower if you don't have it), 2x Grothdarr or Skoria, 5x Damage Set (Burning Spellweave, Julianos, TBS etc), Maelstrom Fire staff (main bar) + 2x Torug's swords (execute bar).

AFAIK Julianos will outpace TBS at lower CPs, but I could be wrong there.

    I appreciate the advice.

I'm like you and feel that Julianos is a little better, but with the lower CP's, hp's are a little low, about 13k unbuffed, 18k buffed. This may be a mechanics thing as I have mostly soloed dungeons. So don't know what to do in groups yet.

I have a willpower set, is that optimal?

Again, thank you for the input, I'll work on these items.

One of the things you have to remember when following popular build ideas, is that they are created for and explained by endgame players. I have difficulty believing it's a good idea for you to wear Twiceborn Star, as it relies on having a good Crit Damage Modifier value via Elfborn CP. You won't have those for a while, not if you invest first into Elemental Expert as is recommended.

I'd suggest that you wear 5 Julianos for now with 3 Willpower jewelry, and craft a set for your Head, Shoulder, and Weapons to stand in for future dungeon gear. Choose one based on the stats you feel you most need to improve. Do Undaunted Pledges for keys if you enjoy them, but don't stress out about not receiving a particular weight/trait of shoulder. The loot table is currently very weighted towards useless combinations. Once you have a shoulder that you'd like to run, go clear the matching Vet dungeon for its headgear.

18k Health as a damage dealer is plenty for most things, practice your dodging and placement instead of speccing towards higher health.

If money is a concern, the only slots which benefit heavily from Legendary quality are your weapons and jewelry glyphs. Everything else can be left purple with little lost power. If you're not too strapped for cash, I'd say you should make a full Training armor set as well, to take advantage of the progress you can make during this event. Training far outstrips the combat efficiency Divines or Infused will give you, if your goal is to gain experience quickly.

I completely forgot about Undaunted Pledges. I'm only lvl 3 currently, I really need to get that up.

    Thank you.

Until you're at max CP, your best option is the simplest:

5xJulianos, 3x willpower, monster set of choice, sharpened weapons.

I have a destruction staff and a restoration staff equipped. Would it be better to switch out the resto staff for two swords, like 2 Torugs?

I see this mentioned a lot here?

Again, all this feedback has been much appreciated!

Twice born star is a perfectly acceptable endgame 5-piece set to get you started. You could farm something like BSW, but I wouldnt make it my first priority.

You need to focus your farm on three things.

4-man: You need a monster set. Grothdar is probably your best option at this point. Try to get divines pieces.

Trials: You are going to want either Aether or Moondancer Jewelry. The difference between the two is pretty minimal. You want this mostly for the 5 percent damage buff. You also want any sharp Destro staffs you can get your hands on for these sets. These are definitely not easy to get. A few armor pieces of each in Divines is also pretty useful, especially until you get your weapons sorted out.

Solo: If you can, a Sharp VMA inferno is tough to beat for a back bar weapon.

Starter Gear: 5 TBS, 3 Willpower, 2 Monster, Random Sharp staffs.

Mid-level gear: 5TBS, 4 Infallible Aether or Moondancer, 2 Monster. What you do to make this easy is craft 2 TBS Sharp Destro staffs and wear one armor piece of Aether or Moondancer. You wont lose the bonus when you swap as long as both staffs are TBS. NEVER RUN A STAFF THAT ISNT SHARP!!!! I dont care if you get a nice shiny precise VMA staff, its garbage. Dont use it. Sharp is King by a wide margin.

High-Level: 5TBS, 4 Infallible Aether or Moondancer, 2 Monster on front bar, 5TBS, 3 Infallible Aether or Moondancer, 2 Monster, and VMA staff on backbar. Once you get both a Sharp VMA staff and a Sharp Aether or Moondancer, you can run those weapons and move all your TBS to armor pieces. This is going to be a bout 2k better DPS than the mid level gear on single target, and touch more in AOE. Whether that 2k is worth 2 pretty huge farms is up to you.

To sum up: Get grothdar and Aether/Moondancer Jewelry and one armor piece, and you are 95% of the way there.
