How often do you swap specs?

Hey all... just a semi-newb question here...

but how often do you swap around your specs for giggles?

I'm currently returning for an extended absence (just doing dark brotherhood stuff, getting used to One Tamriel etc.) and started fresh. I started up a nightblade because i've never done one before and have been enjoying my stamblade quite a bit.

I'm now 27 and working my way up. I've gone DW/Bow so far (using one of Deltia's guides) and been doing rather well.

I am, however, using a lot of the same skills i've had for quite awhile now and its starting to get a little stale. I'm not high enough yet where my gear is set in stone so i have room to play... so i'm considering respeccing and going with 2h/Bow (the other path on the same spec).

I've also considered trying out a magicka nightblade sometime down the line for giggles... but right now i'm sticking with a stamblade.

So yea... how often do you guys switch around? Do you stick with one skill setup? Do you have enough points at endgame that you can just swap around weapons for funzies and not worry about it? Swap around for pve and pvp play on a regular basis?

Just kinda curious before i start leveling up my 2h stuff ;)

Swaping specs can be costly so no i don't do it that much. On the other hand having two of each class, one magicka and other stamina is better if you are planning on playing the game for a long time.

yeah not often you already have to switch between pve and pvp cp set ups and I couldn't afford paying 10k to switch skill points

2-3 times a week usually I test new stuff. Have spent around 3,5 million gold this patch on gear, tempers, pots, skill and cp respec. Did 50-100 bloodspawn tests and 10-20 normal AA storm attro dps test. My build is unique, self designed and far away from meta, and have around 50-55k single target.

hmm... i'm basically only considering it for a swap in weapons and passives with said weapons...

maybe it'd be better to do power out some skyshards or something to get the extra 8 or 10 points to play with lmao.

I have a Mag DK and Stam DK... so yes, I would highly recommend a magicka and a stamina variant. With such little pvp additions, playing on different toons is the only way to keep things going...

every time ZOS go and mess up the skills/passives/appease the whiners, or do what they call "balance"

which means my bank balance better start getting healthier for the "Housing/Balance" update in Feb 2017 as I will probably have to re-spec all my chars

I am quite the skyshard hunter so I haven't had too much trouble with skill point ineffienct builds.

Currently leveling MagDK I can't settle on my abilites or my weapons. Since I have skill bars of completely DK abilities I don't really need to settle if I don't want. Particularly if I want to get to fossilize and Ash cloud I have to use "bad" earthen heart abilities to level it I can't really decide which of them I want to use.

Sometimes I might want to see what its like to have a random ability from another weapon. I am currently running dual staffs (mostly so I can just run a rotation without having to switch bars to elemental blockade in the middle) but I tried out resto staff and I intend to give Sword and board and even dual wield (gives an execute) a try at some point.

I use an addon called SWAPS that saves skill bars to swap specs all the time and yes, once you've played enough and gotten enough skyshards, it's pretty easy to have enough skill points to train several different weapons without a need for re-spec. My stamsorc for example has DW, Bow, 2HD and 1HD+S all trained as well as medium and heavy armor... and more than enough skill points left over for PVP and guild skills.

I use a special skill bar just for turning in quests to level skills and skill lines I don't normally slot to get at passives in that line or to unlock the morph I will use eventually. This is how I trained 2HD and 1HD+S for PVP and tanking while playing using DW and Bow exclusively.

I also have different set-ups for solo and group and for bosses and trash: for example I use Caltrops for dungeon trash but swap that out for Rearming Trap for bosses. Then there's the resto line I level for all my magicka characters for healing dungeons. And of course there are the PVP bars as well.

Of course it helps if this is not your first character that you're also trying to use for crafting - crafting multiple professions will eat up a lot of your skill points. My crafters are semi-retired ex warriors who just craft and pack bank overflow.

Each of my characters are designed and set in stone, one for each class. Redoing skills, Attributes, and Champion Points, especially in the late game is incredibly expensive for players who aren't millionaires playing the Market. Not to mention you need to craft entire new armor sets, improve them, enchant them, and if you don't like what you've made you just wasted all that effort and resources.

Rarely. It's tedious to go through and re-assign stuff like that.

Whenever I'm bored with current build, could be as often as daily, or months. Got 3.5 million in the bank, so 10k respec is nothing. Two random dungeons and you got 10k back.

    Very rarely,

On top of it being location specific.

    Having a subustantial-ish cost.

It's a complete pain in the arse.

We should be able to go through and move skills, change skills, de-select skill, purchase skills, or change morphs on the fly.

TBH it's kinda ridiculous how non endgame user friendly this is.

It's also another barrier to entry movinga character back and forth from PVE to PVP. Not that there are not already enough barriers and other assorted bulls h i t associated with PvP let's just make more difficult inconvient just as a plus one.

Think it was originally designed as gold sink which in that, is just flawed and poor design.

I go between healer and dps in dungeons all the time. Not that big of a deal to change one weapon and slot a few skills. Great to add to the groups dps.

Completely respecing the purpose of the character, rarely.

The more characters you have that are maxed out/geared out and ready, the more interesting the game becomes. Currently at 7 and still haven't finished gearing and leveling everything. I guess its what keeps the game fun for me, gearing stuff out, doing dailies and then doing trials and PvP.

Every month or two I like to try something out.

I try to test out my build ideas on PTS first but if certain equipment is unavailable to me there I will delete and create a new character on live to level up something to test. My 8th character slot I try to keep as a disposable slot in case I want to scrap it and remake it. Paying for respec is definitely not my thing.

    Open world PVer...generally solo...

I swap out skills all the time. I like to change things up and it keeps the game more interesting. Also, it allows me to solo certain world bosses or dungeons that my normal fast-mode open world build doesn't. For example, I would never need a direct heal open world but for certain bosses I would, or a pet/ward/etc.

Also, sometime it's fun to S&B. Sometimes I like a big Maul. Always fun to DW, lol.

I do wish we had loadouts (e.g., RIFT) but I don't think we ever will.

My favourite part about this game is theory crafting and I hate how zos makes the best feature for me cost so much money. To counter this I swap between different classes but cycle the same gear. As a consequence I end up with gear that although is strong it isn't bis for all the builds I have.

Once I have leveled a character I only respec if I decide to change weapons or the skills change. I never remember all of the passives I had set up and if I want to try a new build I role another character.
