pro tip:
Whenever you get a master or a maelstrom weapon that you intend to use, for god's sake, lock it immediately!

In the future there will be only one occasion where you're gonna unlock it, and that's to make it golden. And when you do it, take your time - no party chat, don't be drunk or on other drugs, lock your kids and wife/girlfriend away and turn off your phone!

I don't think locking prevents re-enchanting them. Or atleast it didn't a few months ago.

Zos should add an option at Enchanter NPCs to revert any enchantment to original one for a price. Maybe even a quest type, with collecting few rare items for the process. This way its complete bs.

When you lock an item the game won't let you do anything to it besides deposit it into the bank. You do indeed have to unlock an item in order to enchant it.
