Are DoT ticks calculated based on the bar used when casted or the current bar?

Curious if a dot ability cast from my back bar can proc a 5 piece bonus only available on my front bar (assuming of course I swap bars right after casting).

It depends on the dot. Ground based AOE's like endless hail, wall of elements, caltrops etc, can proc when you swap weapons. For example if you have your 5 red mountain piece on your dual wield bar, endless hail can proc it. But dots that sticks on the target, will have their current stats regardless if you weapon swap or not, like poison injection, venomous claw, twin slashes etc.

I've always been told it's current bar that counts.

Not true. I just checked it with rendering slashes and poison injection and the damage changed when swapping weapons during the dot duration.

Thats strange, it does not do that for me. I tested it several times. I will triple check this again next time I am ingame.

Maybe it did a none crit on your bow bar and a crit on your dual wield bar? You have to check crit attacks for example only.

No, it was not a crit / non crit issue. But I just did a quick test on my stamplar with my default gear and passives, so it's possible that only some effects influence the skill while others don't do it. Maybe I'll do some proper testing later.

If the 5pc bonus is capable of proccing from a DoT, it can proc from whichever bar has the set bonus applied to it. For example, if you're using Burning Spellweave on your front bar only, and you cast Flame WoE on your off-bar, when you swap back to your front bar, the Flame WoE ticks can proc Spellweave.

In my experience, DoTs that stick to the target, like Burning Embers, will calculate damage based on the active bar as well. If there are exceptions, I'd be interested in learning them. To my knowledge right now, however, this has always been true. This should remain true if Burning Embers is on your back-bar when applied, and swap to Spellweave on the front, like the above example.

I believe Venomous Claw damage ticks are based on whatever bar you are currently using as it ticks

So if i have Venom Claw on my DW bar and continue to use skills on my DW bar it will do significantly more damage than if I applied it from my Bow bar and continue to use abilities on that bar. It could act differently because it is a class ability and not tied to any specific weapon line? So the damage goes off of whatever bar you are currently on.

I could be wrong though, thinking about it gets confusing.

Back to OP - If you bar switch to a 5pc, the DoT applied from the backbar should still be able to proc your 5pc bonus while on that weapon bar, as each DoT tick is considered separate from the initial hit that applied said DoT.
