Steam Gold edition on sale, works with your existing account

Just FYI to everyone, the Steam Gold edition that's on sale for $30 now WILL link with existing non-Steam accounts. So if you don't have the DLC yet and want to take advantage of a great deal, I highly recommend it.

I had a non-Steam account, but I wanted the DLC and the auto-login feature that you can only get with Steam. So I bought the Gold edition on Steam. It will prompt you when you first install it to link to an existing account. Just enter your existing account name and password and you're all set. It will even recognize your existing add-ons. I personally uninstalled the original non-Steam client and did a fresh Steam install, but others are reporting that this isn't necessary.

And here's another helpful tip if you're using Minion with the Steam ESO client. If Minion is having trouble detecting your ESO add-ons folder, go into settings/options in Minion and expand the folder search depth to 6 (default is 4), then select the force re-detect buttons and restart Minion. It should automatically find your add-ons folder now.

I have this version already. There is an auto login feature? Where? I'd love to use that.

Yes, once you install and link to your account, from then on it will launch directly to the character select screen from the launcher (no manual login). Not sure how you do this if you already have an existing Steam version. But for me it was automatic.

You may have to reinstall the Steam client for it to work. I think this comment has more info:

Maybe it has something to do with using a third party launcher to turn off fog. I'll just suffer the login screen.

And you can access the DLC without plus right? I was under the impression you couldn't with your non-Steam account and that's what was stopping me from picking it up

Want to be in the game in 10 seconds?

    1. Make a shortcut to the ESO64.exe and put it on your desktop
    2. Locate the UserSettings.txt in the document folder, path is probably C:\Users[name]\Documents\Elder Scrolls Online\live
Find the line SET SkipPregameVideos "0" and change the "0" to "1". Then save the file and close it.

Now, your in the game in less than 10 seconds, server/cyrodiil issues not withstanding. Yes, you still have to type your password, but I even copy it from a notepad and paste it so that is even quicker.
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

Yes, with the Gold edition you get the DLC as if you had bought it in the Crown Store.
I was under the impression you couldn't with your non-Steam account and that's what was stopping me from picking it up

That's one of the reasons I wanted to post this thread. A lot of people are posting outdated info saying you can't link an existing account to a Steam version.

Thanks! The second step there is a useful tip for any version of the game (I can confirm it works on the Steam version). Combining that with the Steam auto-login makes for a truly sweet combo. I'm going to share it with my guildees too.

    @Nestor

Yeah I already have those settings for the pregame videos. Still have to log in though, since I use this launcher, and not the stock ones, to remove fog.

I actually like the Fog. I have tried the game with a similar effect and it makes things just seem to darn close. The Fog gives me the illusion of distance, which is why it's there. And, the Fog does change from zone to zone, so that can add to the over all look and feel of one zone as opposed to another.

I remember removing all the fog in Morrowind and using a Jet Pack mod I had made. Go up the air to fight a few cliff racers, look around, and then realize, hey, this is a really small island......

Does the Steam version come with everything the standalone does? I didn't see any mention of the horse on the Steam page, though it's possible I just missed it.

The other thing I find interesting is this disclaimer on the ESO page, which may be contributing to the confusion.
The purchase of a Tamriel Unlimited or Gold Edition game cannot be combined with any existing Elder Scrolls Online account and must be accessed separately through the Steam client.

Which is right next to this:
Requires 3rd-Party Account: Elder Scrolls Online Account (Supports Linking to Steam Account)

I can see why some folks are confused, especially since the first quote is much more prominent on the page.

Yes. When I switched over, all my existing stuff came over too (including the mount I had bought earlier).

Yeah, I think what they mean there is that you can't use the existing non-Steam version on Steam without buying it again. Or it could just be out of date. They only made the change recently that lets you switch over seamlessly.
