A couple questions about spell penetration and spell resistance...

First, does one point of spell penetration negate one point of spell resistance? In other words, is it a one to one ratio? Second, on average how much spell resistance does a max level stamina dk wearing all heavy armor typically have? I'm trying to decide how important spell penetration is to my build. Thank you.

From a discussion in my guild over the weekend, there is a 1:1 ratio for penetration to resistance though I'm not sure if that's true as the person who said it is a troll :D

Yes it's one to one. Not sure how much resistance a full set of heavy armour would provide, but the resistance cap is about 32k at which point you mitigate 50% damage, so 16k resistance mitigates 25% damage etc. In pvp it's pretty hard to raise penetration above 18k but I believe that amount wouldn't be wasted. As a magsorc wearing 2 pieces of heavy and rocking boundless storm and a defending resto on my back bar I have 17k resistances on my front bar and 23k on my back bar. With light armour passive, sharpened trait, 5 spinners and 61cp into spell erosion I have 17.8k penetration. I'm banking on the majority of players having more than 17k resistances for this not to be wasted, which I believe they do seeing as I can hit 17k easily as a magsorc.

Thank you. This helps a lot. I think I am going to go after more spell penetration and collect that spinners set. I hope it proves more valuable than Julianos.

Spinners comes with jewellery so you could actually go with 5 julianos and 5 spinners with a one piece of your choice, although your sustain would suck. Personally I wear 5 seducers and 5 spinners with vMA staves. If you lacked the vma staves you could substitute them with any one piece like kena by using crafted staves instead.

I always use clever alchemist as my other 5 piece because it gives me major sorcery plus a lot of spell damage instantly with the pop of a potion. I find it considerably more valuable than Julianos.

How does this work in PvE? What's Spell Resistance like for dungeon mobs?
