REMOVED FROM GROUP FOR USING FOCUSED AIM. (LOL)

I literally started the Banished Cells II Pledge. And I got asked to stop spamming the bow skill Focused Aim, and just for the record. I don't stand there using the move, I use other moves as well. After beating Maw of the Infernal. I got told to stop using it, then one member passed the crown to the guy complaining and I got removed from the group.

Basically, I got removed for using a move someone else didn't like because I was apparently doing bad dps.

Has it really gotten to the stage where you get told how to play the game and what skills you can use? Almost like a ''My way, or the highway'' thing.

What are your thoughts on this?

I use that skill often and nobody has ever told me not to. Gotta say, I only run pledges with guildies. When I pug though, for randoms or whatever, nobody has ever said a word about my playstyle. If they did, I wouldnt even care xD Focused aim is cool and I will keep using it.

I do pretty good damage with it though. On top of that, I provide a lot of DoT so I don't get what the problem is. The group can benefit from it too as it afflicts Minor Fracture. I get is not an AoE move, but my character is good at single 1v1 damage, hence why I use it.

You can do good dps with focused aim, but you must not have. Melee dps is better right now tho.

There are certain skills and playstyles that may be decent in PvP, or solo PvE, that are not useful in group PvE, snipe and dizzying swing are two examples, the long cast times mean that they dont pull their weight in DPS, and in the case of dizzying swing, knocking down one NPC in a group of 20 is pretty useless, same with the extra bow range from focussed aim, especially since everything should be in range anyways.

Players that use it tend to stay far back from their group witch make the healer job harder or impossible.
It is a single target skill and few encounter are pure single target in pledges.
It has a 2 sec induction for a 12-16k hit that equal 6-8k dps

most DPS reach about 20-25k the best 1% can get 50k+ DPS

I only use Focused Aim on bosses. As it is a single target. I use DW daggers and AoEs on groups of enemies.

Maybe b/c it keeps you back out of the melee? Its also single target, making it a bad choice for enemy groups. Cast (or fire-off) time may also be a concern. Just a guess. Players have always been cut from groups for their choice in skills usage, builds, race choice, names, lifestyle, u name it! Doesn't make it right.I even heard one time someone disclosed that she was female and instantly got kicked from a group. Unfortunately it gets pretty bad out there. : (

I don't know if this is true, but a lot of times ive noticed that a boss being tanked decides to come after me after ive dealt high damage...Do enemies attack those who do the most damage or anything? Can any evidence prove this? The people i run with knew what they were doing and how to tank etc so i don't think they slipped up and let the boss come for me.

Not a bad bow build. Even without MA and DSA weapons could probably still do 30k and Probably more in a raid buffs.

Yea,yea. I know the SS is bloodspawn. Still was decent for testing a build.

Of course it has gotten to that point. There are some weirdos out there that take this and other MMOs so seriously they have to dictate how other people play. The solution is to leave their terrible group and find someone a little less crazy about the game (which can be a challenge) or I guess conform to their standards.

yes if you do enough damage you can break the agro, but MAW typically breaks agro by himself and any noob tanker wouldn't tell the difference.

Sounds like a learn to play issue. Not sure who is at fault though, but clearly, the problem is somewhere.

Bow and 2h are pretty weak in PvE DPS right now but both should be sufficient to do a dungeon.

Have been hearing this a lot lately, that bow builds are bad DPS and should be kicked from groups. Very disappointing. One of my alts is a pure high crit bow ranged sniper...she doesn't even have melee skills slotted, if something gets too close she relies on stuns, evasion and stealth to re-position. I like to weave heavy strikes in with focused aim for bosses (arrow barrage and acid spray for mobs, plus buffs and debuffs of course)..so she's always hitting and gets tons of stam back. I know his doesn't get the highest possible DPS vs melee...but I don't want to play melee and I think it's a solid ranged stam bow build.

I find where this style is appreciated the most is in a 3 DPS 1 healer situations, with 2 melee DPS jumping into the mob while I hang back and snipe protect the healer. Or trials and PVP (melting you from a distance : )

Unfortunately, limitations on group setups using the finder tool mean that dedicated bow builds are frowned upon. I would recommend running dungeons with a guild or putting a group together outside of the finder tool.

I won't call focused aim bad (it has its uses), but it's all relative. You can spec into bow an pull passable DPS, no question. In the current meta, 24K DPS is average at best (30k is good, 40k+ is elite). Play how you want, but bow single target PVE DPS is bottom of the barrel, has been for a while. If I were in a group struggling for DPS, I would look first to the DPS main barring a sword and board or resto staff (it happens), followed closely by the guy main barring a bow.

Also, Group damage was purposely disabled. Only way you know if you are pulling more than the next guy is if everyone has damage sharing on FTC enabled (which is not always reliable) or everyone was posting damage in chat (maybe they did).

I am certainly not advocating anyone be kicked from group. Personally, I dont think vote kicks should be allowed until the group has wiped 2 or 3 times.

I am pretty sure everyone performs better with build they really like than the meta build that they hate to play with.

Sorry for double post. This is not exactly true. You cannot "break" aggro with high DPS. Some bosses do have mechanics that ignore aggro and will target one of the other group members. You can also steal aggro if you slot a taunt, and you can make the boss taunt immune if you over cast your taunt.

Now if the tank loses aggro, the boss will generally go for the guy doing the most DPS. That is generally what happens.

I've wondered about that myself. Many instances where I seemed to be the only target of interest for bosses. So that is because the tank is not doing their job?

You can solo VMA however you like.
You can PVP however you like.

If we are in a very DPS dependent group dungeon, and you spam only bow skills, doing half of your potential DPS, you will get booted. Nobody wants to wipe on Valkyn Skoria 20 times just because you are having fun with your rotation.

I use to use it as my sneak attack opener for bosses or if you had to back away from melee distance I'd spam it a little from a distance until I could return to it. But now it's just way better to keep your poison inject, endless hail, and use the rearming trap on your bow bar.
