Another VMA post. How long did it take you to start getting the hang of it

Frozenmosquito
Just for the record I agree there should be a separate subforum for VMA posts

So how long did it take you to start getting the hang of VMA in the way that the rounds did not seem too frustrating anymore, and perhaps started to attempt getting on the leaderboards. I just did my 3rd full run and it definitely felt much easier and smoother. First two runs I every rounds bossfight felt hectic and stressful, third time I already know what to expect --- Along with the zenimax BS, so even wiping for being zenimaxed didnt feel as bad. I do think tho that I still have a hundred rounds to go before I start attempting the leaderboards lol, especially as I play a SS.

Also, please fix XBO servers

"in the way that the rounds did not seem too frustrating anymore".

I feel like there are enough bugs, RNG, and performance issues to ensure perpetual frustration no matter how good you get at it. Even if all that should be fixed there is still the matter of looting that final chest.

Sure but a large part of the frustration, especially at the start, comes from mechanics. I only felt like throwing a tantrum once during todays run, as opposed to the 25 times on my first attempt Kappa

On my main Magplar my runs went something like:
    • Run 1 = 100s of deaths over several weeks of doing it on and off
    • Run 2 = 35 deaths
    • Run +3 = 7-15 deaths on average

My scores are slowly improving (475k last week) but I haven't beat 7 deaths which was run 3. There's still a slim margin in some rounds/fights where I'll die if I don't focus 110% or if I forget a certain mechanic. Still frustrating most of the time (I'm only doing 1 or 2 runs a week) but getting easier.

i started at cp270 khajit stamblade, 5 NMG, 5 viper, 2 leki. Finished at 274cp. Took about 10 hours on first try. 2nd run went way smoother, probably 2 hrs.

cut it down to about 1 hr 15 on my 10th run. But i always did it in segments, so i didnt know my score, and i thought it'd be impossible for me to consider weekly leaderboards. Finally tried it in 1 go and got 450k, which is very close to the minimum NB weekly.

That was when i became addicted to improving my score. I broke 500k on my 15-ish run, then continued to consistently improve, while also leveling other stam characters for multiple weekly rewards. By rewards i mean weekly gold mats.

my scores are now 545k on stamblade (27th run) and 541k on stam sorc (4th run), at 390 cp. Still no flawless best is 2 deaths, not making a single mistake in 45 minutes is hard. Gona try my fresh 50 stam dk after 1tam patch.

got sharpened bow and precise axe/dagger. Dying for at least 1 sharpened, but really my dps is enough for the time being, until my guild starts to do vMoL progression in a few weeks.

Spent a good 20ish hours when it first hit PTS. Oh man was it hard back then. There was a bug which reduced your damage by 50% and the cost reduction/magicka regen from CP was broken and didn't work. Coupled with the cp300 templates with whack gear, I made it to the last boss on arena 9. Couldn't finish it and gave up on it, still kinda regret it.

As soon as they fixed those issues on the PTS back then, I pretty much breezed through it on my first try, getting flawless conquerer shortly after.

Looking back at that makes me feel all nostalgic.

Seeing how salty people still are about the difficulty of VMA today, I can only imagine the outrage that would have been on the forums had it retained it's original difficulty.

After the 1st clear on sorc it was easy. Few deaths here and there. Stamblade was a pig. Took me about 3hrs to get a technique down for that last boss. Magplar smashed it. Magblade smashed it 1st time.

Magdk. ....gave up on round 3. Converted to stamina and did it without vigor. Still struggle hard on having magdk now. The power is there but it's all sustain issues. If they didn't have corrosive they'd be screwed.

Stamplar is very easy on all rounds bar the last boss. Just jab and repent over and over.

Once you get to know the spawns and not go for gold as soon as that 3rd crystal goes it's easy.

About my 5th time in there. It's been about 10 months, but I basically did the following (all before you could save progress):

First Time (which I hardly count): I go into VMA on my mDK trial build and proceed to get my ass handed to me in the first round for about 20 minutes before I realize I need to rethink my life.

Second Time (about a week later): I go in on a pretty cookie cutter mNB build and make it to the stage 5, really only getting stuck on Round 3 of stage 5 for a little bit. It was about a 3hour play session and didnt clear the stage 5 boss.

Third Time (about 2 days later): I devote pretty much a whole Saturday and get to the last boss after about 5-6 hours. I get to the last boss, but only tried him a 5-6 times before I threw in the towel.

Forth time (again, about 2 days later): I do exactly the same thing but this time, I get to the last boss in about 90 minutes. This time I gave him a proper go for about 3 hours. I did not clear, but figured stuff out.

Fifth Time (this time on a mSorc). I clear the whole place in about 80 minutes, including last boss which took 2-3 tries.

Sixth Time (Back on mNB). I clear in about 75 minutes.

Since then, I have cleared at least a hundred times and on every class combo except stamina Templar (he just hit 50 a few days ago). A bad run takes 65 minutes, a good run takes 45 minutes. Stam Sorc has become the easiest/fastest clear for me, and I would probably rank them like this from easiest to hardest: sSorc, mSorc, mNB, sDK, mTemplar, sNB, mDK (guessing stamplar is somewhere in the middle).

Edit: As a stam Sorc, you need to be on point to get on the leaderboards. On PC/NA, more then about 3-4 deaths and your score wont stick. As I said, its the easiest class, which means toughest to get on the boards. Honestly the easiest class to get on the boards with now is probably Templar. I would have said DK a few months ago, but Stam DKs are really pushing scores now. I think sDK has potential for fastest overall run.
