Noob question about nirnhorned

I have all craft at 8 trait, except one handed swords which is 9 traits. I just cannot afford to buy training gear for nirnhorned since it is so expensive. So how do I get nirnhorned gear, where does it drop? Someone should have started it at some point. I never found a drop for nirnhorned so far.
I know nirnhorned came with craglorn but I never went there back then. I recenrly solod most of the map except some quests which required a group and one boss who does a lot of flame on my poor vampire body.
Can anyone shed a light on this for me?

psxfloh✭✭✭✭afaik you'll get one (!) random piece of nirnhoned gear as the final craglorn quest reward.
And a few weeks back I got a nirnhoned piece of gear from a trial leaderboard reward.
But that's it... so either you'll have to buy nirnhoned items from a guildtrader OR get nirncrux (from a guildtrader or from craglorn) and find someone who'll craft you a nirnhoned piece of gear (for a small fee or tip).0 -

✭✭✭Go to Craglorn and farm mats. Nirncrux drops with oars, cloth, and wood nodes. It also drops off any animals that will give hides. Also they can drop in heavy sacks. But it is only in Crag, so happy farming! But be prepared, they are a rare drop RNG wise...

Oh well, since that is the best way then I try farm nirncrux. Got 2 or 3 still in my bank so that's a start.٩(͡๏̯͡๏)۶

sigsergv✭✭✭✭You can farm nirncrux and then ask someone with 9 traits to craft you specific item using nirncrux stone you provide. A lot of people can do this for free or small fee.1 -

It's so expensive because it's hard to get and crafters need it to research 9 traits.I don't know why it's so expensive now I don't know anyone who uses it these days.
Doesn't matter if anyone uses the trait itself, without researching it, you can't craft 9 trait sets.
And a lot of people want 9 trait sets. That's why level 1 nirnhoned weapons go for ~20k and armor for ~8k. Research ...

MasterPerceval✭✭✭Your best option RNG-wise is to do the daily Craglorn crafting writs, they will often give you a treasure map. The droprate of those nodes is so much better. One lucky day I got 5 fortified and 1 potent nirncrux from 1 treasure map, it was insane. Went to the casino that night.

✭✭✭Also in upcoming update 12 drop rate of nurncrux is doubled so prices should drop.
Drop rate is doubled, but we are losing the ability to camp Craglorn writs for survey maps. I can't verify what other people get from writs and the survey maps they get there but personally I average 28 potent nirncrux and 50 fortified nirncrux a month from survey maps alone. I suppose the price may drop, but it really depends on if the majority of sources were from farming or surveys.
