Crown Crates and Crown Rates

It was first mentioned that crown crates would be at a low cost of 400 crowns. However to me this price did not seem low at all considering that was the same price you could directly buy a pet for. However, it appears that crown store item prices have been raised to questionable amounts. 1000 crowns for a snake pet??? 1200 for a single personality??? 1500 for a costume??? What happened to the days where you could buy pets for 400 crowns, 3 costumes for 700 crowns and 3 personalities for 700 crowns. I am not involving the dro mathra senche due to the fact that the mount to me seems fairly priced as it was not just a simple reskin. I would like to blame these ridiculous new prices for such simple crown store items on the fact that ZOS wants to make the 400 crown crate appear to be better than buying the expensive item direct from the crown store. People may buy multiple crown crates in hopes they get the small chance to win the item and save only a few crown in return. I am glad that the mount prices have not yet been raised and the unique limited time mounts have stayed at the reasonable 2500 crown cost. However, I am sure this is due to change soon and you will not see me purchasing a single item from the crown store anymore. I am very disappointed in this decision.

The price is what it is. Buy it if you want, walk away if not interested but who cares what each of us think of this. It's just skins, trinkets.

I feel sorry for those that the offerings in the crown store are their focus and this important.

I wont be buying any, I was playing around with them, on the PTS, to many potions in the pool, and my bad luck LOL

But they are huge money makers in other games, and they are not a requirement to play the game all optional.

I also wish they would have kept the sub only model.

Really? Final Fantasy 14 Realm Reborn

Game is beautiful and well done. I would really enjoy it, but no voice acting and the world feels to quiet for me, and the graphics are Final Fantasy style. So it kind of wore me out.

But yea, the game is doing very well.

I just get upset when people complain about the crown store, but since you do can pretty much play for free, how do you expect them to make money? Should have kept the sub. Personal opinion, that is all.

I've opened 39 so far, 13 per day and only got the Atro Camel Mount
The rest has been potions and other crap I wont use

So when these go live I will buy 1 ( maybe 2 ) per month each time my sub renews, other than that spend as much and buy as many as you please

Completely surprised such a game garners enough subs. It's probably more that the game originally released 1987 and therefore doesn't fit the criteria I laid out if a newer game. It's probably more the WoW affect that the game has been oversimplified and my guess works off an older engine granting lower over head and lower PC requirements. The last part is an assumption since di haven't look at their PC requirements.

FF XIV: A Realm Reborn was released in 2013 as an overhaul of FFXIV from 2010. The Final Fantasy series goes back to 1987, that's true, and it's a very well-known and popular franchise, which certainly helps with attracting people to the MMO, but the same thing can be said for ESO (which "originally released" in 1994 according to your reasoning).

ive noticed price creep as well, we are being groomed to accept higher pricing so we spend more money on both crown store and crates, they think they are being smart but i suspect many people are seeing through this, i for one no longer support this game through the crown store.

I happily bought the drunk personality and plan on doing the same with both the Kagouti and the Infernal Sep Adder. 4,700 crowns, almost $50 (well closer to $25 thanks to crown sales)! Why is this just fine by me?

Because I know what they cost up front, push one button and boom, I have my cool new stuff.

I honestly don't care what they charge for stuff in the crown store, I'll make my determination item-by-item on if I think each specific thing is worth the money. But I will never pay and pay and pay for a chance to get something I want, it sucks all the fun out of a shiny new toy.

I do not plan on ever purchasing crown crates. If they gave more jewels or lowered the amount of jewels needed for things, and removed useless things like potions and left only appearance and mounts, then maybe.

Crown crates = cancel auto renewal and see you again if you ever come to your senses.

They could have simply sold all the Storm mounts for 2k Crowns each. They would have sold like hotcakes because they all look pretty cool. Putting them behind RNG effectively means I'll never get one, as I won't pay to put myself through RNG. I get enough of it with Gear drops.

Obviously - his attitude to crown boxes looks like the same issue... He doesn't understand anything and he doesn't want to. He reminds me of a person, who was against majority of players in LOTRO, when someone in management decided, that they will not create a new Beorning class/race from level 1, but from level 50. He was named somename.EU and he was attacking everyone the same way. So I really would like to know, who are those people ? I don't understand their mentality - it looks like they do support the issue, that will lead to players leaving the game.
In LOTRo the players managed to get that beorning from level 1, because the producer decided to stand up for the players, but he was relocated shortly after that and the new producer soon after that started "polishing" with mixing high quality background music and some graphic antilore changes, so I guess, players will never win really .

Not quite but you will need much more then that to get the one you want that's for sure.

I mean camels and horses (insert whichever mount you don't care for and the game will just know) how will it know if you've never bought a camel or a horse it will give you what you don't have, its smart RNJesus) are the new training and prosperous only this time your paying real money for the things you don't want.

Quoted for truth. I'm the same way. I buy many things that many folks have said were overpriced. I buy them because my perceived value is equal or higher than Zos' asking price. I can't make that determination with these boxes. I will not be buying any. Not. One.

@acw37162 someone in Reddit did the testing on hundred of Crown Crates opening. Apparently the top rewards drop chance is around 1%. So give or take it's going to cost you 40000 Crowns to get one of those Strom Atronachs mount.

Now that is just bloody ridiculous. The chance should be minimum 10%

Exactly how I feel as well. I'm a Crown Store junkie, but I don't mind spending my money on items I know I will get. I won't be spending it on something I might get.
Simply put - if an item is in the Crown store for instant purchase, I'll buy it. If it's only obtainable in a Crown Crate, I won't.

I really think this is a combination of two things that are happening.

First, studios see money, so every studio that can put a "then" after an "if" is trying to put out a game to get some of that money. Quite frankly, most of them don't have the skills (technical, artistic, creative, or business) to actually pull off anything but of F2P + Cash Shop. Cash Shops require nothing special. Anyone can do a cash shop. It isn't even necessary to put in a full work week. I think ZOS realized this about six months after ESO launched.

Second, as consumers, we are whole bunch of people who think free is the same as good. We buy the cheapest of everything, even if it means spending more money in the long run. For many people F2P games are anything but free, but as long as people think they are getting a deal, they will pay it.

Still, there are some people out there who recognize when they have something good, and are willing to pay for it. Those are the people who are subscribing to games rather than lining up at the cash store trough and gulping down whatever slop the studio is serving that week.

Now, one can debate whether there are enough of the latter form of customers to fund a quality MMO. Personally, I think that there is, when it is done by the right studio, with the right game.

Those who can create a solid subscription quality MMO, do. Those who cannot, open a cash shop.
