New Guild Trader Buyout Price coming. From 100 to 10,000. Thoughts?

Reading over the most recent PTS patch notes a little something caught my eye.

Kinda messed up since the poll asks the title, sorry folks. More interested in seeing the discussions anyways though!

My thoughts: I really enjoyed the super cheap buyout price, so that if we didn't make our bid for a spot we wanted, we could (sometimes) find a not-so-great spot for a very affordable price to allow us to save up more money for the following weeks bid. As a guild who is NOT a trading guild I'll have to check... but this buyout price may be more than the guild rakes in from the trader in those not-so-great locations.

This is a great idea, I missed sundays bid and some people bought the trader probably for 100g because they had 0 items in stock.

It'll cost smaller guilds a little more but also encourage fewer traders hired with little in their store. (Spent the weekend hitting every store looking for set pieces in both the 20s and CP 160s)

I thought the market set the price for a Kiosk? If no one bid on the Kiosk, then the Market Price is 0 for that Kiosk for that week.

This flies in the face of a market economy and it only hurts the smaller guilds, while having no impact on the larger guilds.

I suspect that this change will have the following effects:

1. Fewer small guilds with little or nothing to sell will purchase a non-bid trader as there is a big difference between dropping 100g and 10Kg for essentially nothing in return.
2. As a result of #1, there will be less chance that trade guilds with stocked stores that lost their bid won't be able to find a non-bid trader, for which they will gladly pay 10Kg as they have plenty of stuff to sell.

I'm in a big trade guild so I'm biased to say "yes", but because I don't really see the other side's position I deferred from voting. Though I will note that as a consumer, I also hate going to visit a trader only to find a page or less listed - and all junk!

Guild traders are great but i don't really care how much you have to bid.

Just to be clear - the "bid" price isn't being changed. The "hire" price is being changed. Once a week the traders switch ownership to the guild that placed the highest "blind" bid during the prior week. If a trader has no bids, it remains "un-hired". On live, an "un-hired" trader can be "hired" at any time for the remainder of the week for 100g. They changed that "hire" price on PTS to 10Kg.

If this makes it to live, it will be interesting to see if it affects the number of free traders (there are pretty much none as it is now).

10k is nothing if you have a guild with even 100 people. I for one hate going to a trader only to see nothing listed.

Honestly I don't see why it was ever 100g as that is nothing in this game.

10k gold is nothing when it comes to guild trader bids.

If you lost your bid and you're looking for a free trader to snatch up, you already have more than 10k in your pocket waiting to be spent.

@smacx250 This also changes the minimum bid price. I do know and understand what you mean though by the hire price vs bid price and chose my words poorly.

My bad - of course you're right that the minimum bid is also 10K. Like I said I'm myopic from the point of view of a large trader - bids are never anywhere near the "low low price" of 10K!

the intent of the poll is not clear....

i voted 'yes' because perhaps the increased cost will encourage the guilds that get these slots to list stuff that people may want to buy rather than just list junk they are hoping to sell.

there is a big difference between this stuff someone wants to sell and stuff people want to buy.

Mmmmm.... that's interesting.

I mean, if we lost a bid on a trader and are scrambling to find a replacement, provided we bid more than 10k, then it wouldn't make a difference. The thing is, will this make it more likely that there are available traders at switchover, therefore giving us more opportunities to find an alternate? If yes, I'll be happy.

Agreed! Changing this to 100k would be a more meaning change where we wouldn't have guilds without stores randomly bidding on spots as much. While 10k is a step in the right direction, it's not a meaningful enough number to make a difference, in my opinion.

Some of those locations wont be worth the 10k either. While this does nothing for decent locations who attract big trade guilds. This screws over the little guys who make next to nothing on the traders, and only bid on them to be able to claim to have one. Seems like so many people will only join a guild if it has a trader, personally I like my non trade guilds not to have one.

I want a different system, well kind of the same but different. One trading zone. A bazaar... Just a ton of trader kiosks circling a wayshrine. Every guild that bids gets one, but the bid is not for the kiosk. The bid is for the kiosks location relative to the waysrhine.

None of the traders outside of the main hubs generate 10k in fees. Not one of them.

I don't bid and I think this one part is a problem .....it seems ZOS is attempting to try and offset trader issues but would it not make a whole helluva a lot more sense to do the following instead:

1. Cap the max bid amount per trader in relation to the server data of what bids have been and remove the bidding process and replace it with ONE BID per trader. Literally have blind bids which addresses other issues from feedback where some guilds seem to charge huge amounts from their members to bid each week.
2. Input gold from certain rewards done daily and weekly into the guild bank from dungeons, vet dungeons and trials with an increased amount for hard modes. Writs as well
3. Add 100 more traders
4. Replace the walking merchants seen all around Tamriel and in towns with ....

-A walking trader who still will sale and repair.
-Add a trader in all dungeons at the entrance in both versions

It's not really a change anyone was asking for. I don't see how it will hurt, though, and maybe it'll discourage troll bids.

If anything, it should probably be more expensive. I think it should be more expensive to secure a trader for 50+ people for a whole week than it costs for a brand new player to buy their first mount.

I always thought that guild traders were the reason the economy worked so well. Because guilds change each week, for the most part, no one can control the economy. The alternative is a primary auction house, with everything centralized at one location, which sounds great. However, primary auction houses allow for market manipulation, like one person with a ton of money to buyout all of one item and sell them all at a higher price, which gets ugly. It happened a lot in FFXI. Don't get me wrong, it's not all peaches and cream, it sucks running from one place to another just to check prices. Then again, the cheapest items I've found were on guild traders out in the middle of some veteran zone.

This is a fantastic change that should keep troll buyouts at a minimum. In my opinion, if your store can't make back the 10k fee over the course of a week, maybe that guild shouldn't have a guild kiosk.
