Why sooooo much PvE in this game instead of PvP?

They have both for a reason. Some people (like myself) prefer PvE combat for my game play experience. I may venture in Cyro from time to time but's just not my thing. Other's strictly PvP and enjoy it and that's totally fine. Never before has there even been such a thing as PVP with ESO because it was never a multi player game. Be glad it's there at all :)

I enjoy both aspects of the game and I am glad there is more PvE to do than PvP, or I would be sooooooo bored when I hasn't feeling the urge to PvP. PvP isn't an afterthought though, by a long shot. We've got a great dev who always seems to be working on something to improve PvP, and he listens to the community. The biggest beef most of us have with PvP isn't the stage where we do our fighting, it's with the combat system and itemization.

Not entirely sure, but as an example, I believe Battle Spirit is a bandaid fix from BrianWheeler to a problem caused by Wrobel.
Id go into that more, but I think it's slightly off topic.

I always though PVP was the weakest part of this game one of the most disappointing features when I first heard about it. PVP is like the last thing I think of when I hear Elder Scrolls. I would rather have much more focused PVE then there is now.

Now over 2 years after launch they are fixing some of the mistakes pvp caused, such as the 3 factions and being locked out of 2/3 of the world to start. Battlegrounds will be nice too if they ever get to that, I'd rather have that system then open world any day.

For starters, it's an Elder Scrolls game... People buy Elder Scrolls games in search of: Adventuring, fluid PVE combat, immersive backgrounds, lore, story-telling, and things of that nature. Not so much PVP. I did a poll not too long ago asking if people would buy another ZOS title, and the results came back that most people wouldn't (58%). And that the reasoning why people bought ESO in the first place, was because of the game being apart of the Elder Scrolls franchise. That in itself should answer your question. The proof and statistics of my claim(s) will be listed below.

    Proof:

I would have to say that forums are not a good place to find statistics at all, but you're probably right regardless.

Long story short, because PvP is a joke, and isn't making Zenimax money.

Contrary to popular belief, the people on these forums aren't the center of Zenimax's universe.

why so many PVP threads outside PVP forum?

There is more pvp here on the forums than there is in the game.

They tried and ended up with more campaigns than they needed at launch even though they had plans to add many more.

People play how they want to play and ESO has shown that the vast majority here want to PVE... which is fine by me. The PVErs fund us PVPers... thanks guys! :)

OH god so much revisionist history in this thread I don't even know where to start. PvP, and the alliance war was the PINNACLE of endgame at launch. The entire game is centered around the Alliance war, no not in PvE lore, the entire game is centered (literally) around making it to Cyrodiil and fighting other players for your alliance. It's the reason for the three factions. The factions don't really make much sense PvE Lore-wise. That was all done for PvP.
    • When this game launched, there was NO true PVE endgame content. Dungeons existed but bound to the vet level system and permanently low level, No undaunted pledges, no maelstrom arena, no trials. The only area that was truly engame was PvP. It was the thing to do to test your skills after you had completed PvE leveling content.
    • In the pre-launch media, the developers of this game all touted their Dark Age of Camelot Experience. DAOC was the go-to RvR game and this game was designed with inspiration from that. The very map of cyrodiil was changed, the lore of this timeperiod. Look at some of the early videos of this game. The marketing was PvP focused.
    • This next point deserves its own bullet point introduction
    • The PvP you experience today is but a shadow of its formal self. PvP worked with no lag, with campaign sizes TEN TIMES what you see in Cyrodiil today. Massive siege battles. No AOE caps so zergs weren't a problem. There were soft-caps to keep one shot builds at bay. It was great.
    • The reason you don't see much PvP today is because ZOS neglected PvP for 1.5 years. After craglorn launched, PvP had about 10FPS for six months. ZOS didn't care. They began pumping out more and more PvE content while at the same time the only PvP changes were bugs introduced by PvE and nerfs. PvP has never recovered to its former state.

TL;DR: PvP was never an afterthought. It was ESO. It was endgame. Then ZOS ruined it.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1vmmQVheKOk

This is what PvP used to be. Weep for what was lost. If you are still not convinced, just watch this and look at these numbers. It's a different game.

The PvP and the PvE are both fun. Some people prefer one over the other, though. A lot of PvErs don't like PvP at all and don't even want to go to Cyrodiil to do the quests there. Other people make a character, get it to level 10 and never leave Cyrodiil again.

Even when there aren't many people in a campaign, you can still find trouble if you know where to look. :-)

I don't really have anything against PVP. I PVE way more than PVP, though sometimes I will enter Cyrodiil for quest completions, CP points, or in hopes of finding a group to run with (which I usually can.. sometimes). I think ganking and such used to bother me.. nowadays, not so much anymore. They're going to show up hostile anyways, so it'd be difficult to "make friends" and run around doing things together and such.

I'm by no means an "awesome" player. I'm currently poor, so some gear is offlimits to me at the moment. No nirnhoned yet. I'm quite squishy, and die alot.. though I'm always striving to improve. Even so, it doesn't stop me from strolling into the pvp zone (where I'll happenstance on a group and it's much better). When I get killed or ganked... who cares? Nothing happens (at least not really, 'cept armor repair). That's just how it goes down there.

I'm sure it's all in good fun anyways. :)

Because this game is for casuals. For example, vMA complaints mostly come from casual PVEr's and constantly ask to change vMA into it a group dungeon because it's too hard. Meanwhile a pvp'r who has never touched pve in his life can do it solo.

To be honest I think there to many Campaigns..

Or maybe ZOS should make ONE campaign that actually has best rewards for holding the map down..

Then we would see war on a scale that would be epic.

Oh FFS! There are not too many campaigns! They've already turned TrueFlame into a lagfest by removing campaigns! At least EU still has 4 30 day campaigns to choose from!

PvP is for people who like to use the best gear and "skills" to take advantage of less geared, less "skilled" players. They will come here to whine about anything that slows them down on farming weaker players or god forbid they die to anyone for any reason.
That's an ugly, spiteful, and borderline irrational generalization about PvP ...

    Very true.

So last night - yes, last night - I logged on and was leveling a new character. Level 10, he was. I decided to jump onto Cyrodiil to grab the two easy skill points. While I was on, one of my faction forts was attacked. My faction sent out a call to arms to anyone available and I responded, "Hey, I'm just level 10!" They said come anyway and so I did.

I was surrounded by people much higher level than me - much higher - with better gear and all those skills that I didn't have. I was in our keep, throwing out spells (I'm a DPS Templar, a class I haven't even played before!) and having a blast. I killed three of the DCs and then another templar got me with javelin. I went back, killed some more, died again.

Maybe the second or third time I've ever PvPed. Ever. At level 10.

Why isn't there more PvP? People play what they want to play. If there was only one server, and that server was lagging like the one I was on last night, there would only be that many more people doing PvE. Or playing something else.

Edit: If Zenimax decided tomorrow to turn this game into a pure PvP, I'd be gone. I wouldn't rage quit, I'd just go play something else because that's just not a game I want to play. Maybe there are people who want to play it. Maybe there's enough to play for the electricity and the wages.

I'm not here for the PvP; I'm here for the Elder Scrolls. But that's just me.
