Destruction Passives

This may be a completely noob question but do I need to be using a destruction staff to get the benefits of the passives? I have my destruction line fully leveled but am trying to work on restoration just in case I want to try healing at a later time and its currently only lvl 41. So I was wondering if I was missing all the passive benefits by using a restoration staff.

Simple answer: you lose all destro passives when using another weapon. This is always the case with weapon line passives.
But even when you have your destro equiped in your active bar, the passives do not always apply:
The first destro passive Tri Focus and the fourth passive Ancient Knowledge only work while using the destro for Heavy Attacks
The second destro passive Penetrating Magic only works while using destro spell abilities
The third destro passive Elemental Force is the only destro passive that always functions as long as you have a destro equiped on your active bar.
The fifth passive Destruction expert only works for destro spell abilities and destro light and heavy attacks.

I don't really understand how a stamina based sorcerer works but I'm thinking I should look into that since I see a lot of talk on it. Pure magic based sorcerer is fun though.0
