Should traits work like sockets?

I am starting to think they should add sockets to gear for traits. Maybe they should make it so when you research traits you get a recipe added to enchanting.

Then they could move traits from being crafted on the gear to enchanting. You would craft a scroll or tome or something that can then be added to the gear like an enchant. And I don't mean replacing the enchant. Each gear would have two sockets.

The traits could be broken down in some order, not sure how the priority would be but like maybe prosperous and training for levels 1-10. Kind of how the glyphs are broken down to fit in the tree.

Anyway this means that traits could be changed just like enchants. They could be sold on the market.

Honestly anything would be better than the horrendous RNG we have now. Anyone have any thoughts, good, bad or indifferent?

That would be awesome. Could even tie it to a new profession, tinkerer or something like that.

Have traits had to get is good for two reasons:

    1) It shows how much time and effort one puts into crafting
    2) It adds value to be a crafter. If everyone can craft, then there will not be any self worth being a crafter.

Being rare or hard to get is not always bad.

I do agree with this. However, there needs to be some balance. Maybe purple and gold are destroyed after you unsocket them, or you just have a chance to get the mats back.

What will end up happening is bags full of traits and I would assume crafting would go away. All you need to do is make 1 set and switch everything out, which personally I am not a fan of. I love crafting everything for my toons as they level and for my guild mates.

But it is a good idea. If I may add to it. Have certain gear not have a trait drop and you can add one to it. MORE RNG!!!! lol.

Everyone can craft. Plus I think you missed the part about research. It is still the same amount of time invested just moving it to the enchant tree.

And the set bonuses should be the rare and hard to get piece. Not the trait that is on it

Just like enchants the trait is consumed if you put another one in.

It would think it would use the same setup as enchants. Blue purple gold giving different amounts of whatever the trait is.

I think it is an acceptable way to get past the horrible RNG of gear drops. Like I said earlier the set bonuses should be the hard thing to get not the trait attached to it.

Or, they could just allow crafters who know a trait on a piece, to change the trait to something else they know. Same thing with style.

That is a very good ide. It also open up for that they east can make more traits in the game without changing alot of drop tabels and other stuff :)

Conceptually speaking, both trait gems and enchanting glyphs are slotted things.

In all games, cartoons, movies and books I ever had contact they were like this. You want a special effect from something, you learn its secrets, gather the components, slot it and use.

But ESO thinks it (the game) is "special" and go on the opposite direction of the common sense.

    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Something similar to LoTRO legendary weapon system would be nice. Legendary weapons have from 1 to 5 sockets that can hold runes, which are tiered and have to be made from lesser runes, which can be obtained from either deconstructing other legendary weapons or from end-game content - raids/special faction vendors etc. Once slotted it can't be removed, but there's a small chance of getting some of it back upon deconstruction. Though it can be replaced by a different rune but destroying the current one in the process.

I know a lot of people hated that system because it made a lot of previous weapons and items worthless, but I personally liked it very much. I loved the fact I could have my own custom made weapons tailored specifically for my play style instead of just having a generic item with pre-made or randomised stats.
