Hello everyone,
I've recently made an altmer sorc mainly for pve but might try him on maelstrom at some stage.
My main since I got this game has been a Stam dk which I really enjoy playing but fancy something a bit different.
I'm just wondering what skills I should be working towards getting for good dps and sustainability and also what gear would be best in slot so to speak.
I enjoy playing ranged dps but I'm not afraid of getting up close if needs be.
I've 505CP at the moment so any help with how they should be distributed would also be extremely helpful.
Thanks in advance for all the constructive comments, negative nellys can just go be sad somewhere else.
Happy questing everyone.

    On you first bar use:

    Destruction Staff
    Crystal Fragment
    Elemental Drain
    Elemental Blockade
    Force Crush
Radiant Mage Light ( to increase critical rate but you can use Mage's Fury instead)
Ultimate-Shooting Star or Energy Overload (or any other ultimate you seem suitable)

    Second Bar:
    Restoration Staff

    Power Surge or Degeneration
    Hardened Ward
    Healing Ward
    Boundless Storm
    Liquid Lighting
Ultimate- Energy Overload Or Shooting Star (or any other ultimate you seem suitable)

If youre picking Overload ultimate you can slot these on your third bar

    Radiant Magelight
    Daedric Minefield
    Streak
    Boundless Storm
    Liquid lighting

This skill set up guarantees good dps with liquid lighting, elemental blockade and boundless storm as these do good damage overtime, spam force crush and hit the crystal frags each time they proc

I like to run the 5pc seducer set for recovery and reduction. I pair it with Julianos or Vicious Death and willpower jewelry. My crafting is almost up to the 8 pc sets for light armor so as far as the higher trait required sets go I'm not sure which are the best combos. I put health glyphs on the main body armor and magicka on the rest. I put the majoity of my skill points into cost reduction and recovery. The light armor focus is a good one as well. Thuma for your Dot (if you use them)

    For skills I use

Main Bar - Destro Staff & Overload Ult
    Crystal frags (obviously)
Velocious Curse - Morph of Deadric Curse
Endless Fury - Morph of Mages Fury
Lightning Flood - Morph oh Lightning Splash
Mage Light From Mages Guild Abilities

    Second Bar- Restro Staff
Bound Aegis - Morph of Bound Armor
Empowered Ward - Morph of Conjured Ward
Critical Surge - Morph of Surge
    Consuming Trap
Healing Springs - Morph of Grand Healing

This is the setup I use and it seems to be pretty good for PvE including vet dungeons. I tend to not play my sorc in PvP because I am terrible with her and do not have the right setup at all. I'm not sure what is a good setup for sorc PvP but I know what I have sure isn't haha

    Hope this helps!

Resto on a sorc in pve? Whatever next. Get some swords on, stick on overload and be done with it. OP. Use scathing mage and elegant. With jewelery and sharpened swords. Front bar sharp inferno, force pulse, frags, aegis, ward and inner light not radiant and meteor.

Sword bar. Overload (elegant boosts it by 20% for free) liquid lightening, proxy, aegis, surge and boundless storm. No need for light on a buff bar.

Overload bar, ward, aegis, LL, storm and inner light.

CP. All into Ele expert, the rest into spell pen. This way you have pretty much the full 15k debuff with sharpened weapons. Red tree, Ele defender and the other half into physical res and thick skinned.

Green tree, 100 in recovery, 67 in reduced cost, 10 in tumbling (this also gives you more gold in chests Inc undaunted chests) the minor 5% cost reduction in rollinh will save your life more than once.

That's my flawless set up on mine. Restos are for scaredy cats who run away.

some weird suggestions here except for drxharbinger lol.

I agree, dw UNLESS you just cant survive and need healing ward. but going into overload on your dw bar melts crematorial guards in two hits with elegance.

    however,

I use 5x julianos, 2x kena, 3x willpower WITH SPELL POWER ENCHANTS, one sharpened staff with prismatic onslaught enchant (deals 7k damage to daedra on light attacks- needs repora, hakeijo, and kuta), and 2x torugs pact swords- one nirnhoned one sharpened.

    Destro bar:
frags, pulse, hardened ward, INNER LIGHT (whoever said radiant was very very wrong), bound aegis, and slot meteor but never ever use it.

Theres a passive in the mages line that gives more max magick per mages guild ability slotted, hence inner light and meteor. This combined with bound aegis gets my max magicka up to 44k

DW: execute (endless fury for me), liquid lightning, boundless storm, surge, aegis and overload

    Overload bar:
same as dw, but add dark exchange and morph it to what you want more resource regeneration of.

I have had better luck doing this build though:

    Destro:
frag, pulse, ward, inner light, woe

    dw:
execute, liquid, harness magicka, surge, boundless

    overload:
execute, dark exchange, hardened ward, inner light, flex spot

    good luck!

dont use healing springs if u use a resto, all u need is healing ward and all the passives for magicka regen

Woah we got a badass over here.

Op I recommend you have hardened ward on your front bar if your new to a sorc especially in VMA.

    My sorc setup is:
    2 kena
    4 body Julianos
    1 body elegance piece
3 elegant jewellery all Spell damage
    1 sharpened julianos destro
Dual wield: 1 julianos sharpened sword, 1 elegant sharpened but if that's to expensive then get precise.
This way julianos is up all the time.

Note; I read that when in overload that the dual world passive 5% increase damage with swords is not active. So I wouldn't bother paying 400k + for a sharpened elegant sword.

I just got a precise mace instead for 10k. I crit the crem guards for 55k. Also I didn't have aegis on, would be more if I ran shadow mundus.

damn, there are some really messed up and bad advices there.

until now @Wrecking_Blow_Spam gave u the best gear set up. if u don't have elegant, just go 5 julianos, 2 torug, 2 kena + 3 willpower. (traits as mentioned in previous post)

    as for the skills :
destro staff : cristal frag (not so much for dps than disabling some targets while u kill some others), force pulse, blockade of fire, bound aegis, inner light.
2 swords : hardened ward (or harness magika if u lack magika regen) liquid lighting, power surge, bound aegis, inner light.
(ultimate : power overload : same skills as swords bar.)

    mundus : thief

in vMael : refresh your dots always while under power surge. that's 2k5 healing per seconds guaranteed
Deltia's no death sorc run is a good help strategy wise (but not for the skills he uses) if u have never done meal (don't hesitate to go for the power ups).

in regular pve (when u got a healer and tank...) u can replace hardened ward with a rearming trap (for better crit damage) and if u run with spell power potions, u can drop power surge and go boundless storm.

given the circumstances u could slot a elemental ring in stead of cristal frag if u need a big aoe boost.
