As an Altmer with the right armor set, CP distributed correctly this should be an ok tank build yeah?

There are some dungeons which highly favor stam tanks because the tank essentially needs to perma-block. (Aetherian Archive, for one.) But overall Magicka DK tanks are good.

Yep, they're good. It has a higher learning curve, but you can permablock on a mDK. A couple pieces sturdy and investment in the block cost reduction passive, plus liberal use of igneous shield for helping hands. Assuming you're going for the ultimate regen build (bloodspawn+tavas+potentates), you'll have plenty of war horns to keep your resources up with battle roar.

The best thing about mDKs is the ability to use chains and talons endlessly. I can do that on my mDK but not my stamDK.

Hardest thing about being a mDK tank is keeping up shuffle. It's an expensive skill. You'll learn to recast it then drink a stam potion, then next time it needs to be refreshed you recast it then pop war horn, etc, to manage your stam.

Oh, and learn to tank without shards. You can't always rely on a Templar throwing you shards at the right time. Plus, as someone who runs a DK healer, I have an obligation to tell people to be self sufficient and that healer != templar

On my magicka DKs, I'd much rather the healer run elemental drain than shards anyway. I can turn magicka into stam, but not the other way around. And if they are running shards, the DPSers can pick them up if needed. (Unless I am trying to hit a synergy and there are shards in the way.)
