Eh Expensive is not the problem.. Flat out worthless items is the problem.

After all of my ESO+ crowns I have saved I think the only thing I have bought was that purdy disco panther mount and the matching dragon/toad..

Sitting on a crap load of crowns and nothing that I want is in the crown store.
