DPS sorceror build help

Valkyriaza
I've recently started exploring public dungeons and I see that especially for veteran dungeons my DPS is just too low. I had looked at the various guides available (most guides I found were fairly outdated) and tried to follow some of their recommendations. So far, unless I include pets on my skill bar, my spell damage doesn't go above 1720 and weapon damage is at 1415. I primarily use a destruction staff. I have a restoration staff for my second bar, but rarely use it. Is there anyway I can up that damage?

Race: Imperial

Attributes:
All in Magicka (64)
Magicka recovery - 1036
Health recovery at 383 and stamina at 686
First Bar:
Crystal Fragments
Force Pulse
Liquid Lightning
Shock Clench
Hardened Ward
Ultimate: Shooting star

Skills:
All Passives for:
Dark Magic
Storm Calling
Weapon: Destruction staff
Light Amour
Mages guild
Majority of crafting skills

Almost all racial skills and some skills in various skill lines like Daedric Summoning, heavy and medium armour.
I only have Undaunted rank 4 so no passives for that skill line.

Gear:
I have 6 pieces of Julianos. 5 Light armour, 1 heavy and 1 medium.
A necklace of the Night Mother
2 rings non-set which aim at Magicka cost reduction and recovery and additional Magicka
Boon: the Mage

Champion Points:

The Apprentice: 104
Elfborn:24
Elemental Expert: 80

The Lover:75
Arcanist 75

The Tower: 30
Magician 30

The Lady: 105
Elemental Defender 75
Hardy 30

Any help would be appreciated :)

@Valkyriaza Just a quick lookover, and on my phone so excuse any errors. Im sure someone will offer deeper advice

Quick points - , why do you run 6 pieces of Julianos, 5 is the maximum for the set bonus. You ideally you want to get as many 5 set bonuses as possible. I.e. With a staff you have 7 Armour, 1 staff (so a 3 set, and 5 set) but also 3 jewellery slots so you could manage 2 x 5 set bonuses and a staff or dual wield for another 2 bonuses. Or if using crafted only, 3 piece jewerrly set, 5 armour Julianos, then 2 Magnus / Seducer & staff the same for a 3 piece. Make sense?

Also why 5 La, 1 Med, 1 heavy? Untill you unlock the undaunted mettle passive you re giving away LA Resources. I would run 7 La, unless u want to level the HA and MA skill lines. And if you need protection use a Ward instead.

Look for a jewellery set for sure. Either buy from traders or farm. That will help. Even if its not perfect, it's a 'free' set!

Unsure why your Wep Damage is so high. You want to focus on huge Magika pool and spell damage I would say (or regen for PvP)

What's your magika pool? And do you PvP or just PvE.

Im sure more experienced players than me will just all over this but just some ideas to start

    Hi,

Thank you! Any help is appreciated.

I think I overdid the set of Julianos, it was too easy to create everything at one location:) Will see if I can get one of the other sets you mentioned.
I remember the other guides recommended 5 light armour and 1 medium and 1 heavy set. Is there any rings set you can recommend?

My Magicka is 27864 and I play PVE only. I'm mostly a casual gamer so any time I get to play I'd rather enjoy the experience rather than field comments from people about how my DPS is so low.

The guides are correct on 5-1-1 as the undaunted passive 'mettle' gives you 1/2% for each type of armour you wear. Thus 5-1-1 would give you 3/6% BUT untill you unlock the passive to max level you are getting no gain beyond a bit of armour. And then miss out on the extra % from the LA passives if that makes sense. So untill you level undaunted I would say go 7 x LA.

Magnus and Seducer are craftable. In basic terms Seducer is a bit better on regen but at least a 5 x Juli and 3 x Seducer / mag would do more for you!

No prob on being casual fella, I think everyone is bar the elite 1% with alot of spare time! But having the build as good as you can get doesn't take a huge amount more effort and makes content easier. Is all your Armour Glyphed for Magika (purple at least)? And running crafted food, ideally Blue (Health/Magika) again all that will help you pool.

Since I hit VR16 (Now CP160) I was running just over 40k magika I run a bit less now as I hybrid my build into PvP a bit but it gives you an idea.

Ideal jewerrly is Willpower for magika users as it really boosts magika and spell damage. It can be pricey in traders if it's perfect (I.e. with magika enchant) but you can find cheaper with health enchant OR go to Imp City and farm Trophies to buy your own. There are lots of other magika sets tho.

Lastly looks like your level is 315CP, so is all your gear CP160? And upgraded? Again that all helps.

Happy to help as best I can, no way an expert but mained a Sorc since launch and worked hard on stats.

Lastly what's your Spell Crit, you want 50% min for PvE up to 60% is cool tho. PvP Crit don't matter so much but PvE if every other hit is 50% more damage that helps!

Thanks for all the advice so far. I had managed to craft 3 Magnus Gift Items. Some of my gear is at 160cp, but I'm still collecting resources to craft everything at cp 160. My staff is at 160 cp though. Every item is at minimum purple with a purple magicka enchantment glyph. Most of my jewellery glyphs are purple spell damage. My spell critical is only 37.9% at this stage.
I have maxed out provisioner skill line so I use purple or blue (magic and health) at high cp level.

So far I managed to get to the pool of 30000 Magicka pool and to 1856 spell damage. I had found a guide by Yolo wizard for DPS so it looks like I may need to adjust my skill bars.

I use 5 julianous and 2 turougs with kenna shoulders or head ,shoulders easier as they drop from undoubted chests.

That will bump your spell dmg up a couple hundred. plus put crit surge on your bar as it gives a nice damage boost as well (or used to not played my sorc since last update.)

Willpower jewelry can't be stressed enough - I personally use gold spell damage enchants. If you have to decide between robust willpower (for a fraction of the arcane cost) and no willpower at all, start with robust and work your bank up to buy better ones. Infused on big armor pieces and Divines on the little ones (based on stats) helps you along a bit.

Try running a couple pieces of shadow dancer set; the first two set bonuses give max mag and the third gives damage; you can get this for cheaper than elegance set due to 5th bonus difference. Shadow dancer and elegant are the same first 3 bonuses in reverse order. Use your craft able sets to fill in the gaps and try to avoid six of the same set if possible.

Yolo wizard build is a perfect place to start... I do this build (kinda) but i don't have the elegant swords.
a great alternative is to use the willpower jewelry with spell power enchants.
then use 2 - torugs pact swords for one bar and any random sharpened destruction staff for the other. (the weapons they always suggest are extremely hard to find... especially for the casual gamer)

follow the yolo guide for the skills and rotation... but for easier gear....

it looks like below (most of these are not too terrible to get)

    5 light, 1 heavy, 1 medium
head and shoulder - monster set - molag kena, nerien'eth, or valkyn skoria... which ever you can get your hands on will do well. (personally i just run one molag kena for the spell power and one nerien'eth for the health bonus)
    5 julianos with magic enchants
3 willpower jewelry with spell power enchants
2 swords torugs with sharpened and precise (thats what i have anyway)
1 destro fire staff sharpened (unless you can somehow get the maelstrom staff)

with this set up for me (depending on how you enchant them and buffs) i end up with 3500+ (4k with molag kena) spell power, 42k mag, around 1000?? regen, and close to 17000 health.

The hardest part for most is to get ahold of the willpower jewelry or the kena helms.... just gotta push for them though.

PS - I have no gold weapons on my sorc yet (i will eventually).... but i can still run all the vet dungeons.

As an imperial sorc you have the potential to have a very strong stam sorc. You could go bow/DW so you can still have range. With your race stam would get better results IMO.

I do have a shadow dancer ring that I got from one of the dungeons. I put a spell power glyph on it to increase spell damage. Seems like the recommended jewellery acquisition is a quest on its own. Now it's matter of farming in respect to the other ring and a necklace. Thank you.

jakeedmundson I have a valkyn skoria shoulders from the "Wayrest Sewers" dungeon. It seems that more than anything I need to level up the Force pulse and Bound Aegis skills in order to get similar damage to what you have currently. Thanks for the tip about that set.

@antihero727 I have another Imperial sorcerer that I'd like to try this on. It looks like such a different build, but fun.

    @Beardimus Thank you.

Something that you are losing a lot of DPS on is your bars. Because you do not use your two (as a Sorcerer you actually get three) bars, you lose out on a ton of ability slots!

You can start by moving all of your sorcerer-class skills EXCEPT crystal fragments over to your back bar. This frees up a ton of space for you to work with on the front bar. One ability you should take is Wall of Elements in Destruction Staff. It can do up to 2.5k DPS, which is substantial. Even without Maelstrom weapons, it is worth taking.

Next, you want a source of Major Sorcery, which increases your spell damage by 20%. As a Sorcerer, you have it nice, you can either use Entropy from the Mages' Guild line, which will do a small DOT and heal you a bit, in addition to granting Major Sorcery, or you can use Surge, from Storm Calling, which will grant you Major Sorcery and heal you whenever you crit.

Next, ultimates. You have Shooting Star slotted. Good, it should provide you with apx 2% magicka and 2% magicka regen. But now, you need to get the highest single-target DPS in the game. On your back bar, slot Overload. For boss fights, use Overload. When you use it, it puts you onto an alternate bar. You should have Surge, Hardened Ward, and some other abilities (must not be from weapon skill lines). On bosses, just use the Overload light attack on them over and over again.

Make sure that all of your ability slots have a purpose. For example, do not double slot an ability on your two main bars. If you have any spare slots, slot Inner Light from the Mages' Guild skill line. If you still manage to have spare slots, then Bound Armor from Daedric Summoning. If you have both of them slotted across all of your skill bars, that is +15% max magicka, but now you're left with 6 skills to use, so be careful about that. Also, because Bound Armor is a toggle, if you switch bars and one bar does not have it slotted, it unsummons it. Magelight used to be a toggle, but they changed it, so if you only slot it on one bar, you only get the benefit from that one bar, but you do not have to cast it (but you can cast it for Empower).

As mainly a PVP player not sure if my advice goes but if you're looking for crazy damage numbers, I think I might be able to help currently fully buffed I'm at 3.9k spell damage, running 5x julianos 3 Magnus and 3 willpower jewelry all armor has devines and using apprentice mundus (spell damage) on my destro staff I'm using a spell power enchant which add about 600 spell damage for 6 seconds after a light or heavy ***. On damage bar running c-frag endless fury harder ward crushing shock and curse I like it like this cause you can really take advantage of the sorc passive that grants spell power for each class ability slotted, back bar I use streak, healing ward, surge, boundless storm, and harness magicka. My jewelry has all spell damage glyphs, Even tho this is a PVP build in PVE you do so much damage that even with harder Ward being nerfed to 6 seconds most things die before the shield expires, regent kinda sucks but heavy attacks from resto star help, hope this helps and sorry for all the spelling errors on my phone!
