Magicka Sorcerer Help

coldhunter
Couple questions.
1. Can someone explain why dual wield is popular with magicka sorcs? I don't see the synergy but I guess I haven't looked into it that much.
2. What are some of the builds for mag sorcs? For this all I'm looking for is main weapon and off hand.
3. Could someone give me a standard example for dual weild + destro sorc build?

Thank you in advanced. I'm new to sorcs. :D

    1. Dual Wield in your back bar is popular for sorcerers because those weapons provide more Spell Power than a staff. Balanced by @Wrobel.
    2. @YoloWizard has a good build, @hedna123b14_ESO has another, @Alcast just released an interesting pet build for PvP Hist expansion.
    3. Look at @YoloWizard 's build and you will get an idea.

Are you talking about his PvP build that he sells us as gold ?
This build is not usefull for anything.

Yolo Wizard actually has experience with magicka classes or magicka sorc in general and his builds should give you an idea.

And though I haven't tested the build yet, I can see some promise, enough to make me curious.

As others have said on dual wield, people use it so they can run two five piece sets without sacrificing jewelry slots. (One back bar set - lich or alchemist, and one front bar dual wield - Julianos or some other DPS).

It's dropped in popularity because it doesn't have a good spammable. People used to use trapping webs and inevitable det with dual wield, and you can't anymore. Those were devastating abilities before @Wrobel. Now both are useles.

Without a good spam-damage sustain ability, fights against Malubeth tanks and heavy armor trollplars are like beating your head against a wall. Anyone who runs it has this problem...

So spamming shields and pet aoe is promising ( because more is not possible with these limited bars ) :) You are easy to please my dear. Alcast is not to blame, that's the price pet Sorcerers have to pay. But there are still some clever possibilities.

Basically what the people above said. I run duel-wield, but only for the extra item slot. Litch on back bar, Alchemist on the front.

As soon as I run into a sustainable heal-tank or another Sorcerer with a Destruction Staff, my odds decline. It doesn’t help that stamina builds are the meta, as C-frags being one of my only attacks, I tend to miss due to dodge/shuffle spam.
I wouldn’t recommend PVPing without a Restoration Staff, it is achievable, but most people out there have decent heals. Which you won’t.

I’d say, Destruction Staff and restoration staff is the way to go.
My ping is higher than your resource recovery...

The pet build is a experiment. It has to be determined if it is useful or not. I am not that experienced with Magicka Sorcs in general, I was just surprised that you can get such crazy stats in PvP. Dealing damage is one thing, staying alive is the other one.

Also, I do know you tried a lot with pet builds, yet we prolly do have completely different playstyles. So where I might see some cool idea which I wan to test out you might already think/know that its a bad idea...and ofc vice versa.

All I am trying to do is putting out ideas for people that might be interested in such kind of setups. Always adapt builds to your needs, never just copy paste. Every player has a different playstyle.

The double slotting of abilities is really freaking annoying tho....same with boud agis, I do not understand why it was not changed like Inner light....
Maybe that pet build might end up as a supporter/healer because the Matriarchs healing is stronger than BoL lol.

    I understand. And that's a noble intend.

Some other person informed me about your pet build here on the forums and I found some strict words to describe it. So i hope that you don't find these comments of mine at this point :D
But thanks for your explaination. The only thing that bothered me about your video, was that you act like this build is super powerful and that pets are the most overpowered creatures walking the surface of Nirn.

Nothing of that is true. Even with 100k magicka, pets will not be independant damage dealers (I actually tested that^^) This is due to how poorly they scale with magicka. I have nothing against experiments. But don't blind your subscribers
But yes, your build will work as a healer. But there is a huge difference between healers and supporters. Because Support>Heal.
You will have nice burst heals, but barely any group support. Unlike Templars.

Out of curiosity which pets were you using? Or you can link me to your build (if you've made a video that it)

I tried to incorporate the clannfear into one of my builds, it would actually work great if the clannfear cost wasn't bugged to hell.

The clannfear is pve exclusive in my opinion. I don't see any use for it in pvp. It's more a tankpet, this works in pve.
But it deals no serious damage and it does not CC or debuff. So why would a player pay attention to it and attack the clannfear instead of you ?

Right now, using the clannfear and twilight tormentor over the volatile familiar and matriarch is a potential loss.
Even as a pve dps build, I would advise you to run the twilight matriarch instead of the tormentor.

Because the tormentor is only usefull for 50% of the fight and if you have the matriarch, you don't need to slot conjured ward or any other defense. And as a summoner you are happy if you have a free slot to use.

Firstly going Dual Wield with swords increases your basic spell damage, but there is a tradeoff...

    A little history....
In PVP, Dual Wielding Magicka Sorc were popular when Magicka Detonation was a powerful (pre DB).
For going DW, you had to let go your spammable Force Pulse/Crushing Shock in exchange for Magicka Detonation.

Since Magicka Sorc is all about burst in PVP, your goal was to time:
Inevitable Detonation + Velocious Curse + Mage Wrath/Endless Fury + Crystal Frag for a huge damage burst.

Now that Detonation was nerfed, you are much better suited with a staff and slot Crushing Shock and use the other burst option of Curse + Mage Wrath + C-Frag.

Some were still using trapping Webs for a spammable with Dual Wield but this skill has been switch to stamina, leaving no spammable skill for a sorcerer dual wielding.

Because the tormentor is only usefull for 50% of the fight and if you have the matriarch, you don't need to slot conjured ward or any other defense. And as a summoner you are happy if you have a free slot to use.

Because I wasn't using the clannfear for a CC or debuff, I was using it for a heal, and as it has the most health (like 26k? I think) and it gets warded it I don't have to worry about it being killed and needing to re-summon it in combat.

The heal off of your clannfear is 35% of your max health, and as I have 28k max health on my sorc without even putting any points or enchants into health, with 10% into blessed and quick recovery and using the potion 'Essence of Lingering Health' when needed in a 1vX situation, I can get the clannfear to heal me ALOT highest I've seen so far from it is 12.5k and that's an instant heal. I don't really like the Matriach because it gets killed so easily and is rather annoying.

What's stopping me from running this and trying it out properly is I believe there's something wrong with the casting cost of the clannfears ability, I already posted a thread about it, but the clannfear and Matriach both have the exact same cost, yet I could spam the Matriach heal like 20 times before being out of Magicka, but for some reason I could only cast the clannfear heal about 7? Not sure what's up with that, hell I even managed to summon 2 clannfears at one point they're buggy as hell.

I don't want to disturb your plans :) I hope for you, that the clannfear gets fixed and that it serves your intended purpose.

Well I've already made the build, x5 kags x5 alchemist and x3 willpower, it has pretty decent damage and quiet well rounded, but the clannfear bug has killed it so I've benched my sorc and am currently levelling a blazing shield tank to annoy people
