Anyone else having game crashes after Monday July 17th's Patch? PC-NA

So far since this update was done, I've had the game crash on me twice. Now that isn't an awful lot for sure, but since it's been so long since my game crashed last that I cannot recall it, seems too coincidental. If you were on yesterday and had multiple crashes, please post and list out what you were doing and where.

My crashes both occurred in Rawlkh'a. One while just running around, no spell casting at all. Another while trying to wayshrine to Wrothgar.

Not for me. I played on 4 toons yesterday, doing pledges, writs, and shopping around at guild stores before finishing the night in Cyrodiil. The game was very stable.

@Reverb cool cool. I was really surprised to have two crashes just doing such minor things so I hoped they were just one off's. We'll see if others have issues as well or not. I did upgrade my video card drivers to the latest version yesterday as well so who knows.

@CeoloRT that's not good at all. Where is your character parked that you have this issue with?

@Robbmrp Idk it's different places everytime, but mostly i log off near the Undaunted camp.

@CeoloRT that place can be pretty busy with people picking up the dailies but not as busy as Rawlkh'a during peak hours. Hopefully they were just one off issues for us and they don't keep occurring.

I'll add that I have not taken the most recent Nvidia driver update. I'd be curious to know what graphics card and driver people that started crashing after yesterday's update are using.

@Reverb I do have the latest Nvidia driver for my 970 GTX. I also updated my wifes computer and she didn't have any problems with the game yesterday. She wasn't on for anywhere near as long as I was though.

@CeoloRT, what GPU are you using and if it's Nvidia, did you update it to the newest drivers as I did?

You might want to roll back the graphics driver and see if that makes a difference. Was there a particular reason to upgrade the driver? I'm very much of the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" brigade and never change my drivers without very good cause.

Yes and no. That's an ok line of thought for graphics updates, but often updates are to patch security risks. Best to read through update notes and decide if you need it or not before updating most software.

But I do try for a "one change per day" policy. So I would never do game and driver or OS updates on the same day. Then if something breaks I can narrow it down to the one thing that changed.

That's a possibility, but don't assume that because a driver update is offered through Windows Updates it is for security reasons. It's generally agreed that you should never update non-Microsoft applications e.g. graphics drivers through Windows, always do it from the application website - and only then a few days after release when you've had a chance to check the feedback on the appropriate forums. Never have Windows updates on automatic (unless it's Windows 10 of course when you're denied any choice in the matter) and again don't install them for several days so as to give Microsoft time to pull or hotfix any problem updates. The only exceptions should be patches to fix Day Zero attacks. I always follow sites like AskWoody and Windows Secrets for advice on which updates to install and when.
