Gamemechanics lead to a 72hr ban.

Wow so ZOS basically banned you because they dont know their own game mechanics... probably the people reviewing reports are tumblr hipsters playing Candy Crush xD... and people that report you were also ridiculous... "That person knows what he/she is doing! MUST BE A HACKER!!!"

If you ask around in a prison they all claim to be innocent in one way or another. Sucks if this orc thing really triggers some cheat countermeasure. But im happy ZOS starts to do something now.

When i see how the VMA Ladder looks like nowadays, then i compare the names with the names posting here about the sooooo unfair cheat countermeasures. Then you can only hope those "innocents" get the permanent ban they deserve.

You shouldn't be happy ZOS is finally doing something now. That "something" consists of banning a ton of innocent players and then a few hackers. Everyone is then unbanned after a few days or from appealing. That's it.

Praise ZOS for correctly policing their game, not doing a horrible job! It only pats them on the back so they can continue to do a terrible job at stopping hackers... :(

The trouble is people not involved in any of this have absolutely no idea whether those complaining are innocent or guilty. All we know from past experience in this and other MMOs is that whenever there's a wave of bans the forums are always full of players denying they did anything wrong. The rest of us have no means of knowing one way or the other.

Personally I'm far more inclined to sympathise with those who deal with a wrongful ban quietly and privately through a ticket, email or PM rather than posting on forums with a lot of critical and often intemperate accusations of incompetence against developers who are addressing the rampant cheating and exploiting that is, as it is so often, the bane of competitive PvE and PvP. Some innocents will undoubtedly get caught in the net, but let's not lose sight of the fact that a lot of guilty players will get caught too and that's in all our interests.

I would not be able to tell how many hackers were actually permabanned, but I do know a number of them simply appealed. Certain Cheat Engine users even gloated about it (some people took screenshots) in area chat. This is very, very sad tbh.

First they put in place an anti-cheat measure that screws performance throughout both PvP and PvE, then allow this to happen!

You can levitate and spam Meteors/Barriers in PvP/Trials/vMA, then tell ZOS you didn't mean to and keep the rewards. But hey, at least your reputation can't get hurt more than ESO's reputation if this kind of totally ridiculous behavior isn't stopped.

    Hello ESO community,

I am not here to discuss the ban itself, just want to state how it got to this.
This concerns the speedhacking, which I asure you hasn't been done. But obviously people that know nothing about being an Orc in medium armor felt the need to report and ZOS finds an Orc in medium armor plus all passives as being speed hacking....I mean....eh?

I find this very disturbing and if this keeps going, we all could get reported and banned for using legit racial passives and mechanics. I think this is dangerous and I am interested in your opinion...?!

Same here bud. Played my stamsorc darting around Cyrodiil using Fengrush's new Supernaut build and had a blast, though it was lagging like heck and half the time i was stuck in critrush charge animation.
Day after decided to use the same new expedition potions i made (made about a thousand) to go on a murder spreee in towns to accumulate as much bounty as possible and getting guards down to 0% health to make the most use of my Grand Amnesty Edict.

4 hours later I try to log back in....

i was in Cyro the day before it happened, but not on the day though. But i'm really at a loss, i'm more inclined it happened in Cyro now because it was lagging as heck and when you combine the speed of stamsorcs, expedition pots with gapcloser and lag - everything might happen. Maybe a delayed suspension though I don't know at this point what to think.

Without rapids, yes. Rapids give you the same speed with or without your mount, so I don't count it.
Sprint give you +40% speed, 7 medium give you 21% more, orsimer passive add 10%, CP passive add 2% and steed give a 5 - 7,6% (without/with 7 divine). Without any expedition buff, you already have more speed than a horse who don't sprint. With both expedition buff in top of that, you can have more or less 120% more speed (a sprinting horse have 130%).

Now, that's fast. Where is this rapid and expedition abilities? I'm a DK.. probably not available for DK?

The problem is that opinions of customers doesn't matter and we are not allowed to discuss any disciplinary actions, this includes the false positives that are coming from the new cheat detection changes.

I am very disappointed of how ZOS used all customers as crash test dummies over a weekend
and it really makes me sad how many honest players couldn't play since Friday just because of their bad customer management.

    Unlikely.

If, and this is a Huuuggeeee if, the passive was triggering anti-cheat detection, they will update the detection algorithm.

With respect to anyone who might have been falsely banned, we have zero evidence that any specific game mechanic can trigger a ban. This is all speculation, as we have no corroborated evidence to confirm this.

Thing is, I don't think that your friend was reported by somebody. They could have been, but considering the variety of complaints from various people it seems like their anti-cheat system has gone into an odd overdrive. I've read multiple complaints of people getting banned for speed hacking vMA, a solo instance. Others instantly kicked while trying to do DB quests. People banned from running around in Cyro.

It's really puzzling, and I really wish ZoS would have responded again in regards to the technical side of it before closing the thread. =\

That really sucks though that so many people were hit with a 72hr ban over the weekend.

Rapid is rapid maneuver, available for everyone. It give you the major expedition buff (+30% speed). You also can get this buff with quick cloak (dual wield), hasty retreat (bow passive), and some class skills (boundless form for magsorc, double take + path of darkness + cripple for NB, fiery grip for DK, even if most of these aren't reliable).
The minor expedition buff is given by only three skills : accelerating drain (vampire) who is not really reliable, charging maneuver (assault ) who is not really good because you can't stack it with the major buff from rapid maneuver (and the other morph is far better), and hurricane, a stamsorc skill.

Only orsimer stamsorc can really have the 120% more speed when they want. Most of the other are stuck at 110% (if they are orsimer or stamsorc) or 100%.

this would be my guess as well. with some of the other things zos has done in the past, it is not all that hard to think that zos would launch a program to catch cheaters with a detection that was low enough to actually be achieved in game through normal methods.

You have seen their response on severl different things, they usually dont seem to know what half the stuff in their game does.

Given past history, I doubt that the bans are automatically done. I think there is a ZOS employee pushing the button, at the end. This means that the bans are done in batches and likely cover several days of activity.

Unless we have been grossly mislead by liars and cheats in the forums, the ZOS detection is not that finely tuned, and they would know this. They would be foolish to issue suspensions to people without atleast reviewing them, even if the plan is to compensate the false positives on appeal.
