XBox NA - Did anyone beat the final Boss in Vet imperial city prison yesterday?

Hi everyone, I wonder if any group beat the final Boss in Vet imperial city prison yesterday? I spent almost 4 hour on the final Boss fight at Vet ICP last night, and still got failed at last. It really becomes a nightmare for me, now. I am totally sick of the BOSS fight design, and really don't want to touch this dungeon any more unless I know it is really beatable.

I heard the difficulty of the ICP got decreased after new patch released. However, the final Boss is still very very hard to fight. I watched some youtube videos, it seems not very hard. However, the boss which I fought last night was different from the videos.

In videos, I never see the boss throws 3 portals, but the boss I fought often throw three portals.

And besides, the portals are always chasing people in a fast speed. And there are some purple lighting balls nearby shoot you by some bullets to slow down player's moving speed. In the video, the portal moves very slowly, and I didn't see too many purple lighting balls show.

The most frustrating thing is that the Boss often throws a portal immediately on the ground where the player drops from the sky. So, it is impossible to escape this portal for players.

I don't know why it is designed so hard for the players. My character has 425 CP, and the Boss's damage is not very high for me. I want to know if anyone beated this ridiculous monster last night? If you can give me some suggestions, I really appreciate it.

Yeah, we cleared it last night with one wipe. The fight requires more mobility than most. As a magDK tank, this is one of the harder gifts because the mobility required and how many of the boss's attacks are untauntable.

One reason why players get pulled into portals is if you let too many orbs spawn in one spot. The tether applies as slow, so if too many orbs are in the middle of the room it makes it difficult after the drop from the sky.

Thank you for your answers. So, how to eliminate the orbs? Have you met 3 portals at the same time?

The tank should be dragging Lord Warden out of the center as close to the rim as possible, which I realize is hard because he teleports like it's going out of style. When he spawns the orb tethers, they won't be hitting you when you land after portal phase/allow you to get away quickly.

There should be two portals per Darklight Burst if everything is going right and Lord Warden didn't decide to be an *** that day. Two people per portal. If someone misses a portal, either someone should rez them and they immediately clear the portal, or someone just takes one for the team and goes skydiving again.

For pew-pew phase whoever's targeted should STOP MOVING and heal spam while the tank gets between them and Lord Warden and eats the hits like they're breakfast.

Those are the big things to look out for. Since you're on Xbox, you have party chat, no? You should be calling out which portal you're going to. My group usually uses near/far or left/right, whichever makes more sense. He's not a particularly hard boss, he's just annoying as hell.

You can't eliminate the orb tethers, though. The longer the fight goes on, the more they add up, so it's a mild DPS race.

Rinsed it 5 times today. ..not hard at all. Make your tank carry a dps set up, only need to tank overfiend and abomination. It's painful to tank and not needed at all for that fight. Makes it much much quicker.

Thank you for your information. Actually, what we did last night was almost the same as you told.

We usually moved together, and used “you/we, near/far” to tell each other which portal we are supposed to jump. However, sometimes, we were confused with which portal the players should enter because the portals always move and move fast, and they swap or overlap time to time. And most ridiculous thing is it might show 3 portals sometimes.

Another problem is that our DPS maybe not high enough. We don't have Meteor, so we could only use bow and staff to attack the BOSS. So, after long time fight, the orbs spam a lot.

5 times? So jealous of you :'(

You are right, it's supposed to be a quick fight based on what I saw in youtube video.

Good to hear, then! It is a bit of a learning curve, especially since as I said he moves around so frigging much. If you're getting three portals, that's because either one was used once or a bug... and I wouldn't count out it being a bug, because I have firsthand experience with Lord Ugly spawning a single portal. :|

If you're stam, make sure you have a bow and are using Snipe (either morph is fine), Poison Injection and any ranged class abilities you may have. If you run a DW bar you can use Flying Blade, too. It's a lot, and I mean a lot, of moving. I only have one magicka character right now and he's a healer so I can't speak much for magicka ranged attacking.

Oh, and if you see an opportunity, you can totally run in, Dawnbreaker his face and then run away.

Finished the vICP in hardmode twice yesterday. Once as a healer and the other on my tank. I didn't notice anything unusual.

As far as portals, he sometimes only throws one. Additionally, I am not aware of what happens if all the portals are not used up when it is time.

Thank you, very body. Your information are very helpful. My character is a magicka templar. I could Jesus beam, but I didn't have chance to use it because I couldn't stop healing. And besides, moving is my problem because I don't have too much stamina. Since every one said it is beatable, I think I am going to try Vet ICP again next time. Hopefully, I can make it.

Did the very body get good loot from ICP last night?

Another thing I can suggest is to use Harness Magicka on this fight (Light Armour skill line). This is pretty helpful, as anyone can eat the boss' shadow bullet barrage.....thing, with Harness up and blocking. Usually the tank can get in between you and him and intercept this attack, but if he/she can't, and you don't have Harness Magicka, you will probably die. Harness is also good for shielding against the adds when he splits into 4, as they fire off magick projectiles at you. It will also give you a bit of magicka back.

Dying in this fight can be hard to recover from, as it can be hard to rez. The boss will be throwing those big red AOE circles down that you have to avoid, portals will be constantly moving all around/towards you, and those orbs can slow your movements, making it hard to get someone up. All that plus the players still left alive still have to watch for the portal phase so they don't get caught outside a portal when they should be going down. Having some defensive abilities like Harness, or some self healing, is a good idea to help keep yourself up

As for the rest, you will get a better feel for how the fight progresses the more times you do it. Once you get a feel for it, you will have a better idea of when the portal phase is about to begin. You can then start to move closer to a portal in preparation for the portal phase. The boss has an animation for the portal phase that you will begin to recognize. He will fly up in the air, and he will stay there while forming a purple ball in his hands. At this time, you only have a few seconds to get to a portal.

Always be ready to move, as the fight requires a ton of movement. I find it helpful to use tri pots/tri food on this fight, as it gives me extra stamina. As a magicka character, I don't have a lot of stamina to begin with, so this really helps.

You may already know this, but during the add phase, make sure you are hitting the right one. Some will be see through - you should not hit those. Others will be "solid" - those are the ones you hit. Kill them as fast as you can. Solid ones will switch to see through if they are not killed fast enough. When this happens, you will need to look for the solid one and start hitting it.

So basically, this is the fight:
    1) Avoid big red AOE
    2) Avoid portals unless its portal phase
    3) Watch boss for portal animation and get in portals quickly
    4) During split, hit the "solid" add
    5) Use some defensives and self heals

With practice, all of this will start to make more sense. :)

Oh my god! Thank you very very much for typing so many words! Your suggestions are really awesome!

I am using Dampen Magic for Magicka templar, I will switch to Harness Magicka.

One thing I want to ask you is how the tank interrupts the shadow bullets phase? by dash? Our tank is very good. He can survival alone without healer for a long time. Many times, he rez 3 of us. The annoying thing is that the Boss often interrupts the rez.

last night, I didn't use triple pots and purple food I think that's one reason why we were failed. Next time, I will prepare tons of them.

Another thing I want to ask is that my friends told me if the group's DPS is high enough, the BOSS will be split very soon. After that, the players don't need to jump the portals any more. Is that true?

The attack is a line-of-sight thing. The tank can literally just stand between the boss and you while blocking and it might tickle him a bit. I completely forgot about Harness Magicka, being a stam build, but that'll help you shrug it off too. I think the tank even gets healed if they're using Absorb Magicka from the 1H+S skill line, but I'm not 100% certain.

    Ah... kind of.

Boss will split up at around 60 and 30%. It might be 65 and 35 but whatever you get the point. If you can get him from 100-60, from 60-30 and 30-dead before he gets off a Darklight Burst (the jump-into-the-portal thing), you don't need to use the portals. But that requires good RNG and pretty high DPS (which RNG plays a factor into because if I had a nickel for every time Lord *** teleported away from me right before I hit him with a hard-hitting attack, I could fund my sub indefinitely).

@VinyParsley2016 one of the biggest keys to completing VICP and VWGT is that your damage dealers also need to keep their own health up. You are the healer and your job is to keep the tank alive, provide burst emergency heal, and otherwise do damage to the boss. Best defense is a good offense, and the more damage on the boss the less you have to heal. Stam characters ought to be running either vigor or rally, preferably both, and Magicka dps can either use shields or other heals in their damage rotation. They should be able to keep themselves above 50% health and you should only heal them when absolutely necessary. I run DPS on my Magicka nightblade and sorc, and I'll keep an eye on people's health and pop a healing ward if I see an emergency rise. It's a good habit to get DPS characters into and makes these dungeons a cake walk.

    You are very welcome. :)

I do have another piece of advice for you. It can be very rewarding to take 3 other people into a dungeon that's new to all of you, figure out the mechanics, and fight through to victory. However, if that starts to get so frustrating that you don't want to try again, I would highly suggest that each of you join up with 3 other people that know the place inside and out. Tell them you are new, and ask questions along the way about anything you don't understand.

Don't be afraid to ask to have a fight explained, even if it's a trash pack. Ask for advice on what skills would be good to use for a particular situation, where you should be standing, what the kill order is if there are multiple adds, what mechanics you need to be aware of, etc. Do not be afraid to ask WHY they are telling you to do something. Knowing why you are doing what you are doing will help you to better understand how it all works. I know it seems silly for me to tell you to ask why, but sometimes experienced players will shorten their advice to new players by simply telling them to do something without explaining, in order to speed up the run. In my opinion, knowing "why" is key to understanding the big picture.

Once you all have a better idea of how the fights work, you can come back together as a team and practice what you have learned, and feel more confident.

    Good luck!
    S.

Ps. About the Harness Magicka thing - I forgot to mention that you may need to spam this ability during the boss' bullet barrage. You can hold block while casting this, so just keep casting and recasting and holding block until barrage is over.
