New Guard skill and Damage Shields

Does anyone know if damaged redirected by Guard is mitigated by a damage shield (or in the case of Blazing Shield, absorbed by it to be released as damage)? I was thinking about using Guard to help pump damage into Blazing Shield so that even if I'm not personally getting hit, I can still get the biggest possible pops out of BS in group play.
