An opportunity to change gear's appearance

Tarmika

Well, there's nothing new in this idea, it's been implemented in other games. The ability to change the style of your gear without having to craft the whole set again? (you know, when you have finally crafted the gold set of armor it really pains to think of re-making it just to change from Nord to Dunmer style).
So, would you like to have such an opportunity here in ESO?

In the name of all gear that I converted to Imperial, with no idea what it'd look like and made me go "Huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuurk":

    Yes.

In the name of all attempts to make different style pieces and try to make it look good, just to realize the different dyes screwed it up:

    Yes.

In the name of the flippin' icons that show you some cool-looking/badass armor/weapon, just for the ending result to be "meh":

I would like to see it added but I would also like to have it come with some higher costs of the required style materials.

This way you can drive up the value of style materials (rather than the 0.5 they're worth now) and give everyone in the community new to old player something else to farm/sell/trade again.

You can also add more skills for the crafting trees to reduce these costs much like the tempers.

It would only dent the economy if there was no cost. They could allow change of style but with new costs as I stated above.

It can't be that often right now that someone has a whole new set or some items remade just because of the look of it. If you're only changing the look of an item and charging a playing tens of style materials this will increase the value of these items and help more money move around the game.

Why? How? How would it affect the difficulty? They can just make it so you would need to have the motif to transform the items...
And what would change for you if I would swap a style on my SPC set to something more aestetically pleasing?

NO. Not to change existing gear.

Give us separate gear tab, affecting visual appearance only. Like in other MMOs.

This will also pump the economy, both mats and motifs, because now most people will have two item sets equipped.

Well that's one of the options, but "This will also pump the economy" - how is that? You can craft a simple white gear to change appearance, not another gold set

Yes. I dislike the ideas of "just wear a off-the-rack costume into combat" or "give us an appereance tab so we can look like we are wearing servants rags while having heavy armor stats"...

But I would -love- a function to reforge/resew/recarve existing gear into a new appereance, both in style (aka, redo your dropped argonian style armor into nord style, or any other style your crafter had learned), and in crafting tier (aka, redo your nigh level crappy looking breton light shoulders into the low level nice looking ones, or give that pesky red rubedite sword nice grey steel appereance...)

This should be relatively easy to implement too - just add a function to every crafting station, make it cost the new style material, and some resources appropirate to the item level, maybe with a destruction chance like with temper improvements that can be migrated by using more resources... (and while we're at it, remove the "convert to imperial" function and let that one be done this new immersive way as well...)

Add a gold and a style material requiment as a gold sink if you know the style have its style mat and like 5k per change.

Or make ot less pai ful to recraft drop gold tempers needed to 5 instead of 8

Always fwlt I was stupid I needed 2 green 3 blue 4 purple then jump to 8 gold

YES! I made 3 armors of the assassins league this weekend and I must say I regret. Outlaw is still the better looking than both Assassin and TG (imho) - kinda wish I made Abah's Watch instead. 2k mats seems alot but isn't when you're making CP160 stuff

Problem is if this goes the same way as WOW you may as well go there, i don't want another copy MMO.
As for making things easy, by that i mean just being able to change the appearance.
Each time i change my armor i spend time farming the materials and it feels like an achievement.
Some people farm materials to sell so that folks don't have to spend all that time, hence a market economy.

But what about farmed gear that looks ugly? Like, for example, spell power cure is pretty much must have for endgame healing. But I absolutely hate that Xivkyn style. Its even worse that I have to combine it with worm cult, and all colors look different on those 2 styles. I've put much more effort in getting those sets than I would in crafted, why should I be unable to change their looks?
Costumes solve this issue, but only to some extent, since theyre not dyeable/cannot be customized like crafted armor.
And I'm sorry, but your Warcraft argument sounds silly. Its like saying this game shouldnt have bosses because Warcraft has them.
And speaking of economy, there can be some limitations, like motif knowledge (so a person who wants to transform an item to Abah's Watch style would need to have that style), or merging 2 items into one (so the stats would be taken from one item, looks from another). And I'd like to point out that transforming gear to Imperial style was available since release, but imperial motif book has been the most expensive until they released newer and fancier ones.

Im all for gear re-styling. But to be fair what youre saying is not quite true. If you want to change the looks of your gear now you craft a new CP160 set using 940 top tier mats. Then you upgrade it to gold using 56 gold tempers. With a vanity tab youll craft a lev44 set using 94 trash mats and you wont have to upgrade it. My math might be off but you get the picture.

What Id like to see is a reforging system where you take an item and remodel it using mats and ingredients youd need to craft and upgrade a new piece of that gear (Id expand one of the crafting passives in each profession to include a 10-20-30% or 10-30-50% mats reduction for reforging because after all youre not actually crafting a new piece of gear). Your crafting skill must be sufficient to craft that item and you must know the style youre reforging to.

And if they implement a system like this I wouldnt want any exceptions. You can reforge everything, including monster sets and master weapons.

I'd like a better 'dressing room' type thing, when you have a piece of gear highlighted/selected, your image should update to show what it looks like, no different than the stats listing the differences. For crafters, there should be an image of the item, not just the tiny icon that barely tells people anything.

Well. My view on this should be like the "convert to imperial style" option, but at a off putting cost maby 20k. In this case you must have the desirable style stone to change plus pay 20k each time you want to change and have learned that particular style motif

There is no reason to not have this feature TBH. They already teased us that they can do it with the Imperial Style converter option so the capability is there, they'd just need to expand on that to include all crafting styles.

I'm tired of running around in Scathing Mage and SPC. Xynkyn got old after a week and I want something new but I can't give up either set as they're BiS for my characters.

Since when is the economy based on appearance sets? That's rediculous. No one hires a crafter to re make an entire gear set just for appearances. People would rather toss on a costume then pay double for a set. Be real.
